Re: Wakulla River questions and misc reports

The Forbes Purchase was a deal between the Indians and a local Trading Company that transferred most of Wakulla and Franklin Counties to private ownership before Florida became a state. The US government recognized the purchase as legal and issued a land patent for it, once again before Florida Stat...

Re: Navionics Chip Updated - won't load in Humminbird

I have an 1198 c with a new Navionics + chip, so that's an older unit running the latest chip like yours is. Try redoing the update. Mine wouldn't load after I first updated it either, but it loaded fine after I repeated the process.

Re: Weighing a trailer

I don't know for sure what they do. The yard is on the right, but the scale is further down the road. A guy in a golf cart will follow you to the scale and do the weighing after you've stopped off at the office.

Re: Weighing a trailer

It's on Terminal Dr, right around the corner from Shields. Stop in the terminal office. They'll take care of you. I forget what it costs, but it wasn't much.

Re: Engine Overheating due to Sea Grass

Did some preventative maintenance on my yamaha 115 this weekend and thought about this thread. Had noticed a weaker pee stream so I rebuilt the water pump. In doing that I noticed the old impeller was in pretty good shape and the rebuild didn't seem to help the strength of the pee stream. Next I pul...

Re: Senior Lifetime Park Pass Price Increase

https://store.usgs.gov/senior-pass I bought mine in Crawfordville at the ranger station, but they sell them at St. Marks too. Online the cost is $20. I've used it to get into St. Marks and Leon Sinks so far, but it's supposedly good for free access to over 2000 Federal Rec. Sites. It also covers com...

Re: Senior Lifetime Park Pass Price Increase

It's a big increase, but it's still a good deal for seniors. The regular annual pass already costs $80.00 per year, so a lifetime pass at age 62 for that same price really can't be complained about.

Senior Lifetime Park Pass Price Increase

The $10 Lifetime Senior Pass to National Parks, Refuges etc., is set to increase to $80 next month on the 28th. If you are 62 or older and can see value in the pass, don't wait until the price increase to get one. They sell them at St. Marks, in Crawfordville at the Headquarters, and bunch of other ...

This product is pricy, but it replaces the traditional flares with an alternative that doesn't expire. I have one on my boat with a bunch of expired flares

Re: What to do with an old gps

I upgraded from that same unit to a much bigger Humminbird, but instead of getting rid of it I bought a RAM mount and attached the unit to the side of the Humminbird bracket. I figured old charts, tracks and bottom readings were better than none if the Humminbird were to fail at a bad time. Also it ...

Re: Rewiring A Boat Question

Most electrical problems on a boat are at the connections to equipment and the proprietary connectors to electronics. The wires themselves don't wear out, and on most boats the only splices in the wires are where they are connected to devices. So regardless of how new or old the wires are, the conne...

Trashcan Tripletail

Saw something floating SW of the Shell Point Light. Got closer to check it out and saw it was a grey Brute plastic trashcan with Tripletail under it. Two smaller fish and a good sized one. Backed off and threw a firetiger paddle grub and got the tail bit off. I had another rig, white body with an or...

Re: Towing Vehicles

I have a 2000 Ford Excursion with the 7.3 turbo. At 17 mpg not pulling anything, the truck gets better fuel economy than I'd expect for a vehicle that big and heavy. Put a chip in it and it really woke that big engine up, but you won't see me rolling coal and spinning wheels. I keep an eye on the Ex...

Re: Kayaks and Gators

Had one swim directly towards the front of my yak from about 50 yards away, and bump it hard with it's nose. I wasn't scared a bit.
Oh yea, I forgot to mention it was only about 4' long. I can't picture myself calmly watching a 10 footer doing that.

...But, there aren't many places that rival Florida for fishing, and people come from everywhere to fish there... Exactly. Florida is #1 in the USA for non-resident fishing licenses (553, 853). And to reiterate, in Florida non-resident fishing licenses comprise 35% of total fishing licenses . In Fl...
