Re: Steinhatchee trip - It was HOT!
Looks like that trip will be my last for Gag season 2024 with the weather forecast this week. Just saw a "Special Marine Warning" for the Big Bend offshore area stating there was a radar indicated waterspout out near S Tower...stay safe out there folks!

Re: Steinhatchee trip - It was HOT!
Blackened with some sort of cajun/spicy seasoning in my favorite but fried, pan seared in lemon butter sauce or veracruz style all work for me.

Steinhatchee trip - It was HOT!
Headed offshore for gag/ARS whatever was biting with the wife, still dark enough to turn on the navigation lights as we headed out. For once NOAA was pretty spot on early in the day. Headed somewhat north and put a bunch of pinfish in the live well, I swear my wife enjoys catching pinfish as much as...

Might look into this https://www.gpsbabel.org/ a friend of mine used it to convert Garmin to Raymarine with good results several years ago. I’ve never used it so…

Re: Offshore Mexico Beach
I was over there the week before the 4th, 1st time back since Michael made his appearance. We saw the worst shark activity I've seen over there in roughly 95'-100' depths. Didn't chum but the snapper seemed to be much higher up in the water column than prior year trips even w/o chumming. I caught th...

Re: EPRIB or PLB?
What I paid for mine when it was time to replace the battery. Of course pretty darn important to make sure it is waterproof going back together... EPIRB was about $270 for similar battery service.

Re: Tarpon Bait
While keeping them in the water is clearly best, tarpon under 40” to the fork “can” be legally removed from the water for a photo, measurement or scientific testing. I’m not sure what the reasoning behind that is other than to allow those who rarely see a tarpon much less catch one to photo it or to...

Re: WTB: A large manly conventional reel
I'm running a Penn Fathom 20 with star drag on my bottom rods(30# of drag, 5.5:1 ratio) and 100# Powerpro/80# Fluro leader. If I can't stop whats on the other end with that (assuming our local Big Bend small boat offshore scene) I want it to break off fast so I can get back to fishing for something ...

Re: Steinhatchee 06/20 and 6/25
SK she thinks a 36’ Yellowfin is just right... I can’t pay for the gas in those :o I’m thinking something in the 24’ range maybe a KW 239 or KW 244. I like the looks of the Everglade 253 as well. Lots of research and waiting out the CV19 stuff before I jump into that end of the pool. Of course she t...

Steinhatchee 06/20 and 6/25
Had a chance to go with a friend on 6/20 aka Saturday before father's day and 1st Saturday of scallop season... typically I avoid the coast on scallop season weekends but figured we’d be offshore before most scallopers woke up... reality was “what a zoo”. Had I been by myself I’d would have turned a...
