Re: Assistance needed

I'm a total saltwater rookie this year and I've only had to push myself off oyster bars twice. :o The channel leaving St. Marks is well marked. I'm not usually in a hurry so when I cut out of the channel at the mouth of the river I just go slow and watch what I'm doing. Lots of trout just a little w...

Re: Assistance needed

Maybe they're both doing baseball and fishing. That's what I would do.

Re: Mercruiser Mechanic for Outdrive Problem

I found a good mechanic - Me. The first time I do something to the boat (or anything major mechanical) I'm a little hesitant. Here is how I overcome that: Read, Read, Read, Do, Read again. I just pulled my stern-drive (using a little cart I just built this morning.) No problem, Pressure tester is on...

Saw Doc at the Exit Inn in Nashville, TN years ago. Saw Earl at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville before he passed. I really believe "they're in a better place."

That made me smile almost as big as if I'd done it. It's great to hear about a kid's day to remember.

Re: Decent boat for my purposes?

I'd feel safer in my 17' 6' Searay. Thanks guys, I'm gonna hold off for now, work on the SeaRay's watery outdrive, and stick with her for a while. (She is just fine inshore).

Mercruiser Mechanic for Outdrive Problem

Outdrive is mysteriously loosing oil (The reservoir has needed refilling often and there is no sign of where the darn oil is going). I've done all the regular service for the past 10 years, including replacing the impeller, replacing the solenoid, etc. but like an idiot, I've neglected the lower uni...

Re: Fishing this saturday?

Went early to St. Marks and caught the outgoing tide. 5 trout cleaned and ready to cook for dinner. Live or gulp shrimp weighted rattle float and a 2 foot leader. Also, a sea turtle visited my boat. Awesome.

I'm originally from Tennessee and If we had an ocean it could have happened there, too.

Re: New to Big Bend Boating

Thanks to your help, advice, and encouragement I've made several successful fishing trips out of St. Marks. Caught flounder, redfish, trout, pinfish, catfish, manta rays, and even some "whattheheckisthis" fish. Now, I need to sell the Sea Ray and buy a real boat.

Beginners Luck

I asked for boat equipment advice in another group in this forum, got great advice, bought a little black and white plotter/fish finder and all the required stuff. Finally got my nerve up to head for salt water (never navigated a vessel small or large in salt). Put in at St. Marks, saw a porpoise ri...

Re: New to Big Bend Boating

Thanks guys (and gals if there be one). Have all the basic equipment, need electronics. Can't spend too much. Any suggestions for a decent GPS/Finder combo and a radio?
