Re: port st. joe canal

Red Tide has arrived at Panama City waters. Today, Wed Sept 30, beaches are accumulating tons of dead, rotting fish coming ashore. Most all species seem to be washing ashore. Divers report dead fish cover the bottom. I would not head that direction to catch some fish this weekend. Port Saint Joe may...

South of Indian Pass

Caught a ride with an old friend. Checked some numbers 12-18nm out of Indian Pass. Post card weather and the new moon made for a great day on the water. Lots of big Beeliners, RS, Trigger fish, and grouper in 60-85ft. No pics, just a nice day, if you think it's worth it? Beats the recliner!

Frozen 1 gal jugs still work..... 2-3, will cool 5-10 gals water for an hour or two. Hard to cool 85-88 deg water for very long.

Re: 100's to 1000's of sqmi of dead, barren bottom

Just seems like 12months later, many good areas/pieces of bottom are barren. In years past, that is not normally the case. The size of area is also troublesome. Apparently, habitat north of latitude 29 - 27 .000 , which is Steinhatchee Marker 1, is not nearly as affected as habitat 100nm to the sout...

Re: 100's to 1000's of sqmi of dead, barren bottom

I and others have seen Red Tide outbreaks dating back to 1970's. Dead fish are seen floating for miles. Bottom fishing rapidly collapses, but 12 months later, there is a slight come back. The scope of this event seems to cover a much larger area...... and it's not just reef fish that died, it's ever...

100's to 1000's of sqmi of dead, barren bottom

I have been hearing from some long time bottom fisherman, "The bottom south of Steinhatchee, is dead". The handful of large commercial bottom fishing boats in Steinhatchee, left back in March. They are now running out of ports south of Tarpon Springs. The reports from Steinhatchee began fo...

Re: SHARK POPULATIONS

First, Mudducker, the commercial king season opened in the Gulf off La July 1. An old friend is still harvesting them. He has had more trouble this past 5yrs with sharks than in the past 20yrs. He also reports, "Try fishing at night off shore over there and all you catch is sharks!!!!" The...

Re: SHARK POPULATIONS

If anyone on here knows how sharks were being caught in: 1980, 1990, 2000; please let us know. I'm talking about all sharks; sharks being landed by commercial fishing and recreational fishing industry. NOAA has been tracking shark landings since about 1990. Red Snapper, too. Beginning in 1992 federa...

SHARK POPULATIONS

I don't fish often any more, but I have met and chat with many fellas that fish daily. Charter boat captains will quickly tell you, "Sharks are a much bigger problem than they were 10 & 20yrs ago". These are fellas that were fishing 10 & 20yrs ago. I also know a couple of fellas th...

Re: Panacea Snapper & Red Grouper... 7-10

At my age, I don't mind paying. What I don't like is, having to make long range commitments. Especially when there are deposits. The last thing I want to do, "Is to go fishing on a windy day...... just because of a deposit." What I refuse to pay for is a guide who has only fished in an are...

Re: West Pass question

I will be in Appalachicola July 19 for about a week and have a small boat. I hope to go a little offshore if there is calm weather but if not will fish in the bay. My question and concern is the west pass. Seems I would be entering Gulf through that channel ( unless the west gap on St. George's is ...
