Public Reef GPS Numbers: Just in time for grouper season.
If anyone needs it, I threw together GPX files with all of the Big Bend public reefs and a trackline on the State/Federal water boundary. All info comes from FWC's data. The GPX files should be able to load directly into any modern GPS. Just copy it to a memory card, plug the card into the GPS, and ...

Re: Flats Explosion
The waves settle down in just a few hours. The clarity seem to be affected more by rainfall than anything else, as far as I can tell.Mo Redd wrote: How long does it take the sea to settle down after a northerly blow?

Yeah, I figured. This is the only place on the whole coast where I've seen this weird interwoven pattern. Looks almost 3 dimensional. Pretty cool.ced0412 wrote:I'm not sure what your talking about, but if you mean the erosion marks it's just from the water moving out with the tides.

What is this freaky stuff near Cabbage Creek???
I was downloading some satellite imagery of the creeks for the GPS this evening and stumbled across some crazy bottom structure east of Ecofina near Cabbage Creek. I don't want to raise any alarm, but I think a giant sea monster might be preparing to attack that levee. http://i.imgur.com/SEz8a3Yl.jp...

Re: Saturday 3/15 Rock Island Report
Same crappy luck here. Flats and creek's were dead quiet, (except for a howling south wind). We saw some nice trout and reds in usually productive holes, but they weren't interested in eating. I guess they hadn't quite snapped out of that bluebird funk.

... anyone ever hear a commercial snapper fisherman use the words "Investment tool"? Word on the street is that most of the guys who were initially awarded IFQ shares (free and for life, I might add) promptly sold their shares to private investors for a windfall profit and retired. Now, i...

Was flipping through the new Cabellas Saltwater catalog and saw the Uncle Josh Fluke Belly. They make a 5 inch all white one. Uncle Josh pork products are crazy tough... What if I soaked them in GULP juice? :smt077 :smt096 :smt098 I've soaked pork rinds as well as Z-man and other soft baits in gulp...

Re: Aucilla River trout
What are you throwing at them? Hardbaits or softies on a jig head, etc? I've had a little luck on both, but the bite has been awfully slow in the rivers.mpa_72001 wrote:fish very slowwwwwww!!!!

Caught a handful of tiny trout in Spring Creek yesterday. The big guys must be offshore.

Re: Aucilla River trout
i have herd people having a lot of succes there lately. so we went yesterday ..................aaannnddd... did not have anything to show for it . we threw suspending baits and jigs and fished them slow with no results. we tried to fish the deeper holes from north of the boat ramp all the way down ...
Re: Sea Bass
We've been catching some pretty nice ones on rockpiles southeast of the lighthouse in 8-12 feet of water. If you want to head offshore a little ways, here's an idea: Head southeast out of the lighthouse toward the Marker 24 reef and OAR 2K. Once you get to about 30 feet of water, start looking for t...

Re: "Because one spot is for slackers!"
Wow! Sounds like a great way to spend Thanksgiving. What were you using for bait? I caught most of mine bouncing green/silver soft plastics slowly along the bottom with heavy jig heads. The fish were really hugging the bottom on the edges of the river channel, so use whatever weight it takes to get...

Re: Mono Vs. Flouro Carbon
I always tie mono straight to lure with a loop knot on topwater. I don't like how the flouro tends to sink and make walking the dog more sluggish with a leader. I have to retie a couple times during say a early summer morning, but that is the nature of a loop knot anyhow. Gotcha. I assumed you were...
