Great report! What kind of shark did you catch? I got a bonnet head on Saturday that was about 2' long. It was fun to catch, but not as tasty as trout or reds!
Ropeman it was an Atlantic Sharpnose - my buddy likes to toss out live pinfish we catch behind the boat. He bit a pretty good one ...

Steinhatchee April 4-5
went down to the Hatch last weekend for my annual guys fishing trip - Started out North Friday morning buy by noon the weather was threatening to blow us off the water. So we went south and hung out close to channel in case we needed to run in but of course the rain never came although the skies ...

Re: Catching trout gotten harder?
seems that way to me as well... used to limit out fairly easy and quickly in Steinhatchee back in the 00's. Friend of mine thinks the amount of tournaments going on every weekend has something to do with it. May be too much pressure, I don't know though.

Need help with boat setup / trolling motor
I’m finally to the point where I want to get in real skinny water and go after Reds. Problem is my boat was setup for freshwater crappie fishing and the trolling motor doesn’t seem to have enough power to push me around with any kind of decent breeze or current. How powerful does it need to be as i ...

Re: heading to Steinhatchee june 7
You should be okay staying close to shore in a jonboat. The river channel once it opens up into the gulf can get rough if its windy, so be careful if you decide to venture out a bit from shore. Not sure how long you are planning to fish but it will be hot as all get out come June. Wear appropriate ...

Re: Steinhatchee 4/29 as good as it gets!
ken - you can fish anywhere north of the Steinhatchee river channel all the way to keaton beach and not have to worry too much about rocks if you are fishing close to shore.
South of the channel is a different story. 3-5 feet and run and gun until you find fish. You can catch fish pretty much ...

Steinhatchee 4/27-48
Went down to the Hatch for the annual boys fishing trip. Friday started out slow, then boom after lunch we started loading the boat. Had a 3 man limit with 3 over slot trout by 5...caught on mostly gulps, z mans, and other soft plastics. White, pink, and chartreuse worked best. Caught several huge ...

Re: Keaton 6/4
I am not sure what kind of shark it was, but the last time we were at KB there was a 7-8 foot shark right next to the first channel marker coming out of the canal. Was the first time I had ever seen a shark of that size in KB. Made me very excited to go scalloping in a couple of weeks.
I few ...

Re: Whats happened to trout fishing?
I've fished Steinhatchee area since 2003 and the last three years i'm seeing the same thing. it's harder and harder to come by a limit these days. I recall years when you could limit out in an hour or less. Something's definitely going on. I know it seems there's a tournament every weekend from ...

Got out on the water with my buddy after launching at River Haven around noon on Saturday... Fished North of the river... first drift caught 5 keeper trout I thought we were going to limit out in an hour but it slowed down. We Managed to catch 8 keeper trout, a flounder, and a 17 inch Redfish.... my ...

Re: Steinhatchee Creeks
I would highly advise you start out by fishing the creeks north of the river... less rocks and less chance for you to damage your boat. Plenty of redfish up that way too. Dallus creek is easy to slip into on a rising tide in a skiff.
