I have a Penn SSV 6500 with the baitrunner feature that I used for live bait fishing. It's a pretty beefy reel and a bit too heavy to use casting plugs, did some shark fishing with it too; it was pretty sweet. As far as a bait dunking reel I loved it.

A good drift anchor and a smooth anchor trolley is your pal in that situation.

I normally have a small which is a 2500 FK with 200ish yards of 10lb braid, and my bigger is a 4000 FK with 200ish yards of 20 lb.

The Honda Fit is a great car too.

Also would recommend Mazda 3, VW Rabbit/Golf/Jetta (those 2.5 5 cylinder motors are bulletproof).

Or a Ford Ranger, 2.3 I4 and manual trans.

Before I got on the kayak I did a lot of pier and surf fishing.

I had a 2500 Stradic, 10lb Sufix 832, 20lb flouro leader. It's a bass/trout rod but I used it as a bait rod.
