St. Marks Lighthouse Reports Sep. 19 & 25th
Me & the 10 year old son went out from the lighthouse the morning of the 19th with the neighbor and his son, headed out to about 4' approximately off Big Cove, the tide was high & falling. We were throwing white Gulp 3" shrimp on redheaded 1/4 oz. jigs under cajun poppers. Got a few sho...

Re: St. Marks Report Saturday 9/5/15
Good grief apparently the area is infested with big gators! I'm not sure I really wanted to know that .... When I Google "alligators salt water" the various resulting articles pretty much say that alligators can't take saltwater for long, that they seldom venture out in it, and so on. Appa...

Re: St. Marks Report Saturday 9/5/15
"Bad eye," LOL, that may be the one I saw and may explain why he apparently didn't seed when I thought he should have. Which doesn't mean he may be more harmless than other gators. In fact it may be the opposite. Maybe he's perpetually hungry and would like nothing better than a big slow w...

St. Marks Report Saturday 9/5/15
Put in at the fort ramp a little after 7 AM and headed out to the lighthouse. It was just me this time, the boys didn't want to go. Tide looked to be dead high. I swung left (east) and headed to the little beach area just east of the entrance of Big Cove where I planned to cast net some mud minnows/...

Re: Lake Jackson 8-30-2015
I've tromped around the 17 at Bass Pro plenty of times and know what you mean about the front deck compartment. I figure I could stash the anchor in there and shove life preservers in the skinny areas towards the bow. I also figured I'd use the live well/front seat compartment as dry storage--is tha...

Re: Lake Jackson 8-30-2015
Well dang I need to put my weed motor on & hit the lake again. I live 9 minutes away from Miller landing, driveway to boat in water. I have the Yamaha 25 on the Tin Can now as I have been concentrating on St. Marks gulf trips lately but 9 bass in one day let alone a couple of hours? Dang! Also, ...

Re: New Southern Customs Rod
Nice Reds & trout right there!
What type of area did you get the Reds in? For example, creek mouth, oyster bar, shoreline, out on flats 3 feet deep? And what time of day and tide?
I have still NEVER caught a redfish and am trying to figure out his, when & where to achieve success.

Re: Fishing
I went off St. Marks Saturday, fished along shores of Palmetto island with topwater plugs, nothing doing, lots of weed fouling the hooks too, kinda annoying. Saw a BIG shark in VERY shallow water right near shore. Good grief. I wish I could un-see that, as I knew I would be scalloping later. Then we...

Re: St. Marks scallop report
Gyrene--Thanks for the "scallops ON TOP of ice" tip--you were spot on! I did that last Saturday and they stayed open a little and were MUCH easier & faster to clean. It seems that they need to die first, THEN they can be put in deep cold. If they die at ambient temp or just cool, they ...

Re: St. Marks scallop report
I've tasted the water at the fort ramp area and it's always tasted sweet to me. Also it's always a lot cooler than gulf water is. I can't see how salt water would be able to get that far upriver? Maybe at dead high tide? I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just that it's always tasted like fresh whene...

Re: St. Marks scallop report
I know, it is a little longer, but I hate soaking my trailer in salt water when putting in & out at the lighthouse, and at low tide the channel to that ramp is sometimes blocked by stranded deep-draft boats. I also like the idea of letting the motor get a good fresh water rinse on the run back i...
