Secret spots
I’ve been fishing in the St. Marks area in earnest for about the last 8 years. I keep a fishing diary and write down everything after each trip. I’ve read this forum for years and have learned a lot here. If I remember right one of my first posts was to ask how to catch a redfish, as I’d heard a lot ...

Dumb question-how to fish a gold spoon?
People are always saying a gold spoon is a great way to search for redfish around bars and at grass lines. What brand/size/ounce gold spoon is good, and how should it be fished? For example, a slow steady bouncing-off-the-bottom retrieve? A fast steady retrieve? A stop-and-start retrieve where it ...

Re: St. Marks 12/11--12/12
I think I tend to suffer from NOT trying different lures/colors/spots as much as I should. I have a favorite “old reliable” setup that has worked fairly consistently well for everything in the past and because of that I stick to that as my “go to.” I might throw that 100 times with catching maybe ...

Fog
Good grief it was foggy Saturday. It didn’t clear up until around 11:30 and then it re-fogged at around 4:00! Talk about dangerous. Can’t see a thing until it’s right in front of you, and there’s ALWAYS some idiot flying along instead of traveling at a safe speed, which in that kind of pea soup is ...

Re: St. Marks River - 12/4/21
I have failed to catch any keeper trout or redfish in the last 4 or 5 trips. Granted a couple of those trips were short but still. My usual reliable spots have been a bust lately. I’m glad somebody is catching something. But the weather on those days have been absolutely beautiful so I’m not ...

What's the best moon/tide for flounder gigging?
Is a bright high moon good, or not good, for flounder gigging?
You want low tide, right? Or does it matter as long as it's shallow? Incoming or outgoing tide matter?
Is it better earlier in the evening versus later in the evening?
I've never flounder gigged before but I think I'm going to try it ...

"Public numbers?"
St. Marks reef? Wakulla reef? Other? Just curious. (I'm not sure what other "public" spots there are out of St. Marks.)
(If you said "secret numbers" or "my private spot" I wouldn't have asked!)

Re: Smooth Puffers
Chumming while drifting--it depends on the wind & tide. For example if the tide/water flow is going out (heading south) and the wind is blowing your boat towards the north. and you have lines on floats traiiing to the south, those lines are going to be in the chum scent trail. On those trailing ...

Big sharks St. Marks
I intentionally went after big sharks a couple of times in the past two months or so off St. Marks, fishing the flats as well as a little ways SE of the mouth of the St. Marks River. I ended up landing two, both were about 7' Brown sharks, aka Sandbar sharks (C. Plumbeus). They're heavy-bodied and ...

St. Marks May 11 highly successful!
My latest Smooth Puffer/Rabbitfish feeding expedition was highly successful once again. They enjoyed several packs full of interesting colors of Gulp shrimp, and they thoroughly enjoyed ripping apart about a dozen fresh live pinfish especially prepared and presented for them. As an aperitif they ...

Re: Smooth Puffers
Since 2013 I've fished a lot out of St. Marks. Like someone said above they were here in 2015 I think it was. I believe the first I'd learned of them was in spring of 2015 when I was getting shrimp in the morning at Jerry's bait shop and I saw a picture of a weird fish on the wall where people pin ...
