Re: July 1st - July 4th in Panacea/St. Marks
Not picking on you HnM and certainly didn't mean to imply you're scared in the water. Just commenting that there are a lot of critters out there and it pays to be vigilant as you stated. The danger from getting barbed by a stingray while scalloping is probably far greater than a shark bite. The ...

Measuring whole scallops for limit
How do y'all measure your scallop limit? I don't clean them on the boat so I bring them in whole. Normally I use 2 gallon buckets and just fill to top then put in cooler.
Is this a "safe" way to measure your limit? Will fwc frown if there's 3 extra scallops in my catch? Just curious.

Go to the top of this Forum & chose "Area Charts"
Go to "Complete Marine Charts through Navionics Marine"
Zoom into the mouth of the St Marks River.
You will see the river channel. Follow the channel out to the Birdrack that marks the longer narrower sand bar to the east (in green on the chart ...

Re: St marks???
Oh I'm not new to scalloping. Just never been to st Mark's. I think I will just find a boat and follow it out. Maybe they know where the rocks are. Lol. But seriously now I'm a little worried about rocks. Just from hearing y'all talk makes me think they are everywhere. But as long as I go around the ...

Re: July 1st - July 4th in Panacea/St. Marks
Yeah. We catch sharks (1-2 ft ) at Keaton. Same area we scallop in during season. No doubt they are there. Just didn't know if it was over ran. Of course I realize that we are in their house. I always stay vigilant of all the things you mentioned. However gray suits don't bother me. I stay legal ...

So how shark infested is this area for scalloping??Hit-n-Miss wrote:Scallop season will be open and they would enjoy that as a bonus to cool off. I use the fort ramp at St Marks. Scallop on the rock garden area(look for the armada) and fish out by the stake line.

Re: St marks???
I have recently heard of great scalloping in St marks. And it's closer to me than Keaton. Besides the ramp at Keaton is horribly crowded. I just don't want to tear the foot off of my motor. Lol. As I scallop from a pontoon boat. But I think it's worth a try at st Mark's. Anybody been out that way ...

St marks???
Hi. Brief introduction: I am an avid Fisher in the big bend area. Mostly the flats. And love scalloping. I normally scallop around Keaton/steinhatchee areas. This year I think I will try st Mark's. What can anyone input on this? Any info is welcomed. Thanks
