Re: St. Marks 11/1
My son & I made it out Wednesday. Fished oyster bar cuts not far from the river mouth and picked up a few trout, one keeper plus a flounder. Winds died down and we took some pinfish for a ride to Rotary reef. One baby grouper and we lost maybe a 32-33 inch cobia at boatside, and then a calm ride...

Re: DIY Helm station upgrade
The galaxy tab A has good glonass GPS, which works well if you download the navionics charts by wi-fi in advance (it's mounted so I can pop it in & out of the dash easily)

Re: Late report for Sunday October 25
We did almost the same yesterday. Went out with my son (home visiting on leave from Air Force) around 1 pm, caught one 19 inch redfish on a live pinfish at the long bar, then drifted the flats to catch only one short trout. Tough fishing, but a great day for a dad who loves fishing with his son. htt...

Re: DIY Helm station upgrade
If I keep the brightness turned up I can see it perfectly until I put on my polarized sunglasses. But using it for Navionics gives me more room to view split screen downscan and sidescan on the fishfinder. A lot cheaper than buying a 2nd Elite ti2, so it works for me. Calm afternoon for a snapper/grouper combo
Windy app said the winds would be mild this afternoon, so I headed out late morning and spent an hour loading the livewell with pinfish. Leaving from St Marks makes it a long run to the 70-90 ft depth people say you need to hit for the snapper. Stopped first at Oar Wakulla DZ & caught a couple a...
Re: Snapper
We had a liitle window this afternoon when the winds died down. Didn't make it to snapper depth, but in 40 feet we found as many big grunts as you wanted to catch, plus BSB, 5 undersize grouper and this big kingfish carefully shark-trimmed to fit in the cooler https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202010...

Re: Boat Ramps/Storage
I also made it thru the 2-year waiting list at Shields, and enjoy just going and having the boat in the water. I do tip Gary & Kelly, who work hard getting boats in the water, loading gas/ice, and just looking out for my boat. Loading solo is getting to be a chore at my age. I will say launching...

St Marks weekend -- tough fishing
Not much luck this weekend. Wind blowing whitecaps on the flats. Went to the Rock Garden at first light on Saturday, nothing biting. Drifted out from 2 feet to 8 feet -- nada. Used shrimp, gulps, z-man chatterbait, and a live pinfish. Zip. Some boats were bunched up on the shallow flats southeast of...

DIY Helm station upgrade
Last year I made a new windshield, this year I decided to move all the electronics to a new upper console and dashboard (previously all just mounted on top of the console). Added a cheap galaxy tab A to run Navionics & save the Lowrance screen for downscan / sidescan fishfinder duties. Here are ...

Re: Short ride for a Grouper
Small trout near the flats. Ever-present remoras on the reef. I was mostly testing the boat after re-doing the helm dash etc. My buddy and his brother caught 2 nice cobia at the same exact spot (used my boat & gps marks) 2 weeks ago.

Short ride for a Grouper
Got a late start with a few boat/trailer issues, so my plan to go far & deep for grouper didn't match up with the hours I had available. Took a quick run to St Marks reef, and after one boat left, I had it all to myself on my favorite spot (until 4 more boats arrived) . I didn't have live bait, ...

Re: Rod Repair
I keep thinking I can put those ceramic rings back in instead of replacing the whole guide, but haven't had any success, even with my high-tech solutions [WINKING FACE]like JB Weld.

Re: CCA Big Bend Chapter On-line Auction
I agree, I bid on a couple things but a lot of other stuff I just couldn't be sure what I'd be getting.
