Re: 4/24 St Marks Reef / Dog Ballard

Too cool. I mentioned catching a load of pinfish out by the bird rack, but it was maybe a couple hundrd yards closer to shore and northeast, drifting 4 ft depth between a mess of crab pots.
Might have to go looking for that big cobe this weekend though!

Re: St. Marks reef

If you go to Navionics on the web and click on chart viewer there's a thing that measures distance between any two spots on the chart. Most of the public reef #s are marked as well. On the water I use their app, and prefer it over my old dedicated GPS unit

Egg sinker sliding above a 3 ft leader & circle hook. Just a few cranks off the bottom.

my first cobia of 2019

Got on the boat after sunrise service. Went out to have my my own spiritual experience on the water. Picked up some pinfish by the bird rack (plus my first bluefish of the season) and headed out to St Marks reef. Action was a bit slow at first, but this 42"cobia gave me a thrill (especially try...

Re: Good weekday trip to Steinhatchee 3/12-13

Good report, great day!
We've all been burned on the weather reports, but I've been very impressed with Windy.com. If I put a marker on the spot on the water where I actually plan to fish, it's hourly predictions are spot on.

Re: big sheepshead and a flounder

Live shrimp on a jighead for the sheepshead. Believe it or not I was trying to find some baitfish & caught the flounder on a crappie jig with a little white grub.
Both on 6 lb test ultralight rod.
Go figure.

big sheepshead and a flounder

Had to work for 'em today. Don't know how the other dozen boats parked on the same spot on Rotary reef did, but we only caught a few. Water was very clear, and these two were caught on my ultralight rod with 6 lb test. Other lines were getting very few bites. Also drifting seemed better than staying...

Status of Mashes Sands Boat Ramp?

Anybody know if Mashes Sands boat ramp is open? They were talking about closing it for a month to dredge the channel after the hurricane, but I haven't checked lately.

Re: St Marks boat accident

Condolences to all who knew this young man.
I always wear the PFD with a whistle, but I have to admit I rarely used the kill switch.
I like the advice to figure out a routine, clip it to the pants or something, and make it a habit.
Let's all be safe out there.

bending a new windshield

Old windshield was scuffed up and too short, a new one would be over $500 if I could find one, so I watched enough you-tube videos to think I could make one myself. Bought the tinted acrylic (on-line. Made a template tracing the top of the old windshield from poster-board, then cut out the lexan sha...
