Re: Trolling batteries
Use long cables and put the battery at the opposite end of the boat from where you will be sitting. My son has a 15' Fisher aluminum boat that he uses a bow-mount Minnkota on. When he's fishing by himself on the front deck, the rear of the boat rides too high. We have the battery in the c...

Re: Inshore boat review?
Tunnel hull is not going to go offshore very well. I agree. I have a tunnel hull, and with my prop sitting high as you could run any sort of wind/wave action, even moderate, causes it to cup. As others have mentioned, it's all about your needs. I'm ok with mine, as I usually only run real shallow a...

Re: Who uses a casting platform?
If I get a low profile cooler tie down kit and mount my 65 qt RTIC to the front deck, will it cause any issues while on plane? I think it might actually help, given that my boat is seriously stern heavy. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk That is exactly the set-up I have and I couldn't be happie...

Re: Who uses a casting platform?
I keep a 65qt cooler up on the bow for inshore sight fishing of redfish. Since that is pretty much all do up here, I got some flush mount brackets to mount it permanently and so I also don't stub my toes. It is nice not ever having to move it, even when trailering and save space by combining a coole...

Re: Lake Jackson 27 ramp getting updates!
Are they going to take this opportunity to dig it out some more? Doubtful, unless you already have the permits in place, you can't just go and dig it out. If they planned on making it any deeper, common sense would have done it during the initial construction. Although, I think we all know common s...

Re: Lake Jackson 27 ramp getting updates!
They must have hired the same engineering firm that St. Mark's refugee used designing the lighthouse ramp! Although, at least the lighthouse has a back-stop and it works well enough except around low tide. Given the amount of permitting and design work that goes into ramp construction nowadays I'm s...

Re: 2018 FL Skiff Challenge
Looks like they are all in the keys now, and taking different courses. Hells bay went gulf side, and the yellowfin is running up the Atlantic. The link below has a live map if you scroll down a bit.

Re: Rod recommendations to pair with a 6000series
Thanks everyone, I've got a couple of old ugly stiks I pair with some old black and gold penns. I've given those to people who don't fish much, they can't destroy them! Those Tiger sound good, but I noticed online that the guides are metal, not ceramic. I'm guessing they are zinc. Have y'all had iss...

Re: Rod recommendations to pair with a 6000series
Thanks Silverking, and yes, it's a Fin-Nor spinner. I have one Terramar now. It's held up great, but I am not a huge fan of the action. That's probably my fault, as I picked the wrong style/action, but a couple of experiences with Shimano's warranty department were bad enough that they won't be gett...

Rod recommendations to pair with a 6000series
Hey everyone! I recently purchased a Fin-Nor 6000 series from a friend of mine and am shopping around for a rod to pair with it. I almost exclusively fish inshore with 2500 and 4000's, so this is a little out of wheelhouse. I got the reel for a great deal, and I wanted something with a little more b...

Re: Yamaha F25
Might be worth calling around before you order it. I purchased mine from a dealer in Mexico Beach, who just wanted to clear inventory. It was a short shaft that had been sitting for a couple of years. Took $800 off the listed price!

Re: Yamaha F25
thank you for the input. the new F25 they are saying only ways 140 lbs not sure how that compares to your model. that is the main reason for asking? I will be placing the motor on a 15' aluminum. I saw online they did just come out with a new F25hp that is lighter than the older ones. It looks like...

Re: Yamaha F25
I was in your same shoes two years ago, and ended up getting a 20hp over a 25hp Yamaha. The price difference when I looked was $1,200 more for the 25hp. In addition, the 25hp weighs 50lbs more than the 20hp! Depending on the boat you are putting it on, that extra weight could negate a lot of the hor...

Re: Eye protection (shades)
Are there any Smith dealers in the area? I've got a melon and need to try a some on. And thank you all for the comments. Sunglass World at the mall in Tallahassee has a lot of them. It say's on the Smith Optics site that Academy, Dicks and Tallahassee Trail & Ski carry them now too, although I ...

Re: Eye protection (shades)
I agree with Salty Gator. Had Smith, switched to Costa's, and now back to Smiths. I broke my first pair of Smiths by stepping on them. Dumb move! At that time, Smiths didn't have big saltwater presence, and I bought my previous pair while living out west fishing for steelhead and salmon. I couldn't ...
