Re: Boat / Marine Electrical Work
Looks great. Having the right tools (wire stripper, heat gun for shrink tubing, clamp for quick connects, marine bus, proper terminal ends, etc) makes the job relaxing for me. I enjoy rewiring stuff. Is that weird? NOPE! I enjoy it as well, always thought I was weird too. Glad I'm not the only one.

Re: Apalachee Bay- Aug 4th
Great post, big nurse shark! I suspect the gar you saw were longnose gar, not alligator gar. Alligator Gar's native range never included this far east (https://databasin.org/datasets/74269f4a4b3942929cc0e7e2413c9d8e). I've seen quite a few longnose while diving for scallops and grouper in the St. Ma...

I second that. Live near Tally, but would go out of my way to take it to Crews.THOMAS CITY CURVE wrote:Not to local but Crews Marine in Perry is as good as it gets with a Merc.

Piney-Z has some. Assuming you are talking about Grass Carp and not Common Carp. Might also be some local HOA ponds with them as they are often stocked to manage aquatic vegetation.
Never tried it on the fly, but a bow works pretty well!

Re: Freezing Trout
Vacuum sealing works great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk If I have time I'll put the fillets in a vacuum seal bag without sealing them in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes. The outside moisture freezes and I find I get a better seal that last longer. Not enough to actually freeze the fillets. ...

Re: Fishing Line
For all the braid users out there, how long do you keep your braid on your spool? Do you ever experience what I would consider a dry rot where your braid pops behind your leader? I felt like i had several break offs yesterday that didn't feel like cut offs from toothy critters. I've also heard of u...

Re: Suggestions for getting wired to tow?
If your vehicle is less than ~10yrs old, it should be a simply case of ordering a $40 or so kit and plugging it into a harness somewhere in the rear. Easy peasy. Just plug your make/model/year in on a site like https://www.etrailer.com/ and they'll show you exactly what you need. I've put hitches a...

Re: Fishing Line
Since you are asking about monofilament, I will say that I have been using Sufix Siege on my baitcaster for topwater. The fraction of a second the stretch gives me helps me from setting the hook too fast. If you are looking for a low stretch mono, you might try the new Sufix Advance Monofilament. W...
Re: Fish ID
Unicorn leatherjacket is a variety of filefish. Quite popular as sashimi in Japan. Used to catch a lot of those offshore in south Florida. Never tried them raw, but the meat is very white. Hard to catch hook and line but easy to get them to the boat following some cut bait. We would gaff ...

Re: New proposed trout regulations
I disagree with not reducing the commercial harvest. COMPLETELY DISAGREE!!!!! As for myself, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the did away with harvesting a plus 20 fish. It also wouldn't bother me if they closed the season in JAN and FEB. Too damn cold for me anyway. 5 fish down to 3 is a big move,...

Very cool catch. Those big ones actually put up a decent fight on light tackle. I have a friend of mine from Egypt who loves to eat them. Tried it once... a lot of work for little return. Not for me. World Record is something insane...over 3lbs!!! https://igfa.org/igfa-world-records-search/?search_t...

Re: Status of Mashes Sands Boat Ramp?
Also, I got stuck several years ago at the bridge ramp pulling a 14' whaler with my old jeep that was on 33" mud tires...luckily I had a winch. I haven't launched there since but might give it a go while the other ramp is out of commission. I've got stuck there too. Trailer completely sank in ...

Re: Careful Spearfishing with All this Freshwater
Depends on what fish you spear. Most areas have a salt water demarcation line, but the fish just ignore it. :D Not necessarily based on species. Saltwater demarcation yes. Sheepshead, for example, is perfectly legal to spear in salt, but not fresh. It almost becomes subjective based on the officer'...

Re: Spinning Reel Combo (Trout)
I agree with Silverking. Can't go wrong with any of these recommendations. I've switched almost all my inshore reels (2500-4000 series) to the Penn Battles. Some are the original battle version, lots of use over the years and still holding up well. I do think they may be a touch heavier than some of...

That may be true, but Mr Crum also staunchly opposed the net ban. Even paid out of his pocket to try to have it repealed. Not good for recreational fishermen Got me there...the owner of Michelle's has definitely not paid any money out of his own pocket for ANYTHING...not even light bulbs, air fresh...
