Re: What does a red grouper pothole or Swiss cheese bottom look like?

Great report and great fotos. What would that Swiss cheese bottom look like on downscan or fishfinder? On the sonar, you don’t see any depth changes, but you do see some evidence of fish. It could be big fish. It could be small fish there’s just not enough there to know for sure. It’s my understand...

Fishing Landward of the 20 Fathom Line on March 30 with Underwater Pictures

Early on Saturday morning, we picked up the boat from Martin Marine in Carrabelle. Fortunately, all my trailer lights worked after a tip from Martin that saved me hours of tracking down the electrical problem. (On my own, I had tried fixing the problem with the lights by using contact cleaner, diele...

Re: This forum is dead

Yes, people who go fishing should take a few moments to tell us how they did. a couple pictures along with the post really helps as well. By the way, I went offshore fishing on Saturday and caught fish. I will post more about it, including pictures from above and below the waterline, this afternoon.

Re: Carrabelle Offshore On March 20

When we spear a fish in the brain or spine, the fish gets floppy ….. interestingly, it never firms up, even when iced… makes it harder to clean… I’ve tried to read as much as I can about the ike jime process and why and how it is supposed to improve the taste and texture of fish. The floppiness of ...

Carrabelle Offshore On March 20

I went offshore fishing yesterday out of Carrabelle with three goals--put my friends on red grouper, figure out how to use my new ike jime tools, and take underwater videos. We accomplished the first goal. My friends put a few nice red grouper in the cooler and we released a few large red snapper, t...

I've never seen cats playing with a fiddler crab before. Great picture.

Re: So following up on the Gag discussion

Great analysis.

Please see if you can forward your analysis to FWC staff or their elected superiors who might care more than FWC staff.

Re: This ain’t good..

I spoke with my friend who attends these meetings. He said the Fed's are recalculating and reassessing their catch data as it is obviously flawed on the recreational side. The commercial side is within their catch quota and won't be affected. So.....what that means to the 2024 season......to be det...

Re: This ain’t good..

It’s not surprising. The regulators have a habit underestimating fish in the water and overestimating fish catch rates.

We dive and see it over and over…. Look for hard bottom areas with no more than 1 ft relief
Thanks for the tip.

Re: Red Grouper to the Right, Gag Grouper to the Left, and a Few Red Snapper for the Cooler

Good pulls even if the grouper were out of season, I ran off shore to dog Ballard out of ecofina last weekend looking for grunts and some good black seabass to be disappointed with short black seabass and a bunch of sand perch. Sent from my Pixel 8 Pro using Tapatalk It’s always satisfying to catch...

Red Grouper to the Right, Gag Grouper to the Left, and a Few Red Snapper for the Cooler

Nice report. It looks like you had a great day on the water. You must have found them in fairly shallow water, no evidence of barotrauma in those pics.  Thanks for reading and for the feedback. We were fishing in depths between 85 and 95 feet, but most of our fish were caught in ...
