Re: The Secret to Catching Red Grouper—Carrabelle Fishing Report, July 23, 2024
Slight clarification….. in the 4th pic down from the top, those are big gags, the one that are endangered. 3rd pic down has a nice RG in the front to the left, others are gags. Gags are like that everywhere 😡 I figured that some of the grouper were gags, but the distant fish are so far away that I ...

We got our squid strips at Crum’s. They stay on the hook much better than whole squid.flatsbroke22 wrote: ↑July 24th, 2024, 8:11 pm Who has the squid strips? I haven’t found anyone selling them lately.

The Secret to Catching Red Grouper—Carrabelle Fishing Report, July 23, 2024
If a fisherman tells you that this is the absolute best way to catch a particular fish or the guaranteed way for fishing success, he is probably selling you a bunch of nonsense. You have every right to demand proof. Pics or it didn’t happen. So, I’ve got pictures that prove the truth of what I am go...

Re: Red Snapper Fishing—It’s HOT!
Single dark red fish mark off the bottom… I have screenshot but have never posted photo…. How do I do that? I post pictures using the Tapatalk app on my iPhone. I don’t know how to do it any other way. Once I have the cursor where I want the picture to appear on the post, I click on the insert pict...

Re: How Far and Deep to Catch Red Snapper--July 15, 2024
That’s what we see back east some. There will be one or two sows on a spot…. We are divers so don’t fish them too much. With all that bait I can see why they wouldn’t bite. Where you see the numerous smaller RS, you probably won’t find big ones there. You are correct that the sows dominate the reef...

Re: How Far and Deep to Catch Red Snapper--July 15, 2024
Cool shots with all that bait, makes me feel better about not being able to get them to bite on our last trip. Part of my reason for posting about Monday's trip was to see if anyone has some ideas on what I could do differently aside from spending more time fishing and less time fiddling with camer...

Thanks, Jim.
It was great chatting with you at your rod and reel repair shop in Midway by the Talon range a few weeks ago.

How Far and Deep to Catch Red Snapper?--Carrabelle, July 15, 2024
How far and how deep do you need to go to find and catch red snapper is a question on my mind this time of year. Many think that when there’s heat, you must go deep. However, some friends recently caught fish in less than 100’. Being tired of 30+ mile runs offshore, I decided to do the same last Mon...

Re: Best bottom fishing rig
I second the recommendation for a knocker rig and a chicken rig, which is two hooks on a line with a sinker on the bottom. On the reefs out to 6 miles, you will likely catch a lot of grunts and some seabass. If you are lucky, you might also catch a mangrove on the knocker rig.

Re: Offshore Seafood Buffet—Apalachicola, July 13, 2024
:-D Nice haul. Do you eat bonito? Didn't think you could. :-D The plan with the bonito was to cut them up for bait and freeze them for a future trip. However, we found someone who eats them and we gave the fish away. Both of the fish had been bled, one had its gills cut and the other took a gaff to...

Offshore Seafood Buffet—Apalachicola, July 13, 2024
Yesterday, July 13, was an offshore seafood buffet—for the SHARKS. We hooked a huge variety of fish, but it seemed like the sharks took every other one from our lines. After launching the boat at Apalachicola, we loaded the livewell mostly with cigar minnows that we caught in 60-70’ with Sabiki rigs...
