Re: Apalachee Bay in May
Fished both days this weekend, water temps were steady at 77f -78f and mostly clear. Saturday, headed east to start the day, and had nice clear water with a stiff east breeze. Absolutely slayed the pufferfish, they seemed to be schooling together and would chase almost anything that you threw. As c...

West Flats PSA for Windy Days
I was able to get out last night about 645 from Shell Point, and with a stiff 20kt wind out of the south west, I thought I could duck behind Live Oak Island and get out of the wind. Low tide was at 745pm, and was shown as a +.4 tide. I went outside the sandbars in front of Shell Point, and then took...

Re: Apalachee Bay in May
Thanks for the report. Nice job on the bull reds. What were they caught on? That's a great shot of the Dorado. Was that taken from the Lighthouse observation deck? Surprised the Shoal wasn't more active. It can be hit or miss though and it's a bit of a run out there if it isn't. Bummer on...

Re: Big sharks St. Marks
Very good, now where are the pictures of these fish?
I have seen a few big ones cruising the flats, and catch small ones regularly, usually on live pins. Never gone after some beasts, maybe I should...

Re: Shell Point
Yes, just east of Shell Point, on the other side of Live Oak Point there is good flats fishing. The NW side of Shell Point would also be good. I'd pick my direction based on which way the wind is blowing.

Re: What fish WON'T you eat?
Just took a pan of large redfish & trout heads out of the oven. Marinated in Italian dressing, seasoned with Old Bay, garlic powder, and parsley. Baked at 425 for 25 minutes. Then dug all the meat out of the heads with a small paring knife, loaded it onto a big plate of tortilla chips, sprinkle...

Another for i-pilot. The remote is fantastic, especially if you are offshore and need to check your bottom machine.

Re: Smooth Puffers
[quote="Ted in Tallahassee"Now I should say that when I'm drifting the flats I usually chum by hanging a few trout/flounder etc. carcasses from the previous trip over the side on a wire. [/quote]
Chumming while drifting? Side topic, but how does this work?

Re: What fish WON'T you eat?
I finally kept a sailcat after hearing others say they were tasty. I won't keep another. Too strong for me. It didn't help matters when I slipped and drove a fin spine into my thumb while cleaning it. The sailcat I've eaten has always been fried, which I suspect is a cure for almost anything ...
