Chalk: the water is clear enough for scalloping at the Old Salt Works cabins on 30-E (or is it 30-A?). Even at Indian Pass, it's about as clear as I've seen it. We were there Sunday through this morning (Wednesday). We didn't get into deeper water since we didn't have the boat. We didn't come up on ...

Thanks, T.C. I was afraid the rain had left things ugly. I may have to break out the surf rods and try the gulf side. At least I won't be at work. :-D

Cape San Blas next week

We're taking a mini-trip to San Blas for three days. Somewhere recently I saw a post with specifics on lures, etc. for the bay side (we'll be around Salt Works Cabins). But I can't find the post. Anyone want to volunteer what you know?

thanks, y'all. I'm looking forward to it.

P.S.: Nice Key Largo, dancer. I had looked at a 2002 Largo 180 with a 2-stroke 90 HP. That's what steered me toward the Palm Beach.

boat search is over

(photo with son now posted, from Smack Bayou) For all who patiently advised: I made a deal Sunday on a Palm Beach 181 with a Suzuki 115 4-stroke. The price was do-able, the boat tested well and I can have it serviced by a dealer I like, just a mile from my house. The planets weren't in perfect align...

:o I just came across some seriously bad stuff about bigger Anglers on FS forum, which made me think twice. But I also came across this sound advice in a post by Chalk: I have read few bad reports about Anglers on FS Forum too.... But if you could look deep inside the bowels of most production boats...

quick reaction poll on boat

Time for a weekly "how about this boat" question. What's your opinion on a 2000 Angler 180F (center console) with a Yamaha 115 (2 stroke)? This is assuming the boat passes the ride/inspection/price test, of course. I've read a lot on Anglers, mostly secondhand on other forums. There's a lo...

next question on Key Largo/Palm Beach 18

Is a 427-pound motor too heavy for this 1,650-pound boat (Key Largo/Palm Beach 181/180)? The motor is a 115 HP Suzuki 4-stroke.

d, you and I must have the same tastes in boats. I remember you advised me on Triumphs, too. Thanks. I haven't seen any of the Key Largo 190's and 206's, but the Palm Beach versions look good. Are Largos different in anythng but name? A Largo salesman told they just have a few more standard options ...

Key Largo 180CC?

Any thoughts/experiences with this boat? I may look at a 2004 for sale. Some of the posts on hulltruth.com say older models stay wet (water over the transom). But they also say newer models seem better. I also understand that Key Largo/PalmBeach uses wood rather than fiberglass in construction. That...

Thanks, y'all. I'm looking pretty seriously at a 180CC if I can get to it before it's spoken for. That battery thing is annoying, but seems to be pretty common. I've had to unscrew the top on the compartment just to get the battery out. And then it would only come out sideways. :smt076

Sea Pro (last boat question of the week -- really)

Any advice y'all can share on Sea Pro boats? I've seen a few center consoles, 18 and 19 feet, that look and sound good. But most of what I've seen on the forum is about the bay boats.

You can find good information on http://www.classicmako.com as well... Thanks, Chalk. There's a good history there of the Mako 20 models for anyone interested. It's http://www.classicmako.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=435&SearchTerms=201,1996 I haven't found anyone on that forum yet with somethi...

Thanks, EJ. I think maybe I'm possibly leaning toward potentially preferring a 191. But after reading up on Makos, I'm not sure. :smt102

Anyway, it's nice to get specifics on BBF from someone who knows. Some of the other forums out there are too much baste and not enough barbecue.
