1st Inshore Trip 2023

Me and a buddy at work went out yesterday from the Fort. Started at sunrise and fished until 1:00. The first two hours were gorgeous…mild wind, pleasant temperature…great time to be on the water. We loaded up the live well with pinfish and then went to the stake line and drifted. We caught sharks, s...

Wakulla River Hwy 98 Ramp

Stopped by the Wakulla River ramp at the hwy. 98 bridge today. I was surprised to find that it is closed. According to the signs and the activity, a new ramp and parking lot is being constructed. The signs say the construction will be complete in spring 2023 (it won’t be completed in the spring!). A...

Re: Aggravating Toms

Whelp …The gobblers beat me this year. I came close this morning, but something went wrong and the gobbler retreated without giving me an opportunity to shoot.

Aggravating Toms

I have been chasing some toms for the past three weekends. Every morning I have heard three different birds. Every weekend I have called one of the toms to my location, but each time the bird hangs up out of gun range. Yesterday, I called in a tom and a hen. The hen walked right up to within 10 yard...

Re: In the Spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to ... TURKEY

I am going to miss the first week of turkey season this year. I will get after them though. Already been scouting and confirming that the birds I saw during deer season are still scratching around. Good luck to everyone!

Public Land Buck

Today, I accomplished a decades long personal goal…harvest a buck on public land! I was sitting on my tree stand situated next to a creek bottom that borders a secluded acorn flat. I was not optimistic because my trail cam videos showed that the bucks are nocturnal. But, I had a few hours to waste, ...

St. Marks River - 12/4/21

We found some redfish along the oyster bars between markers 37 and 36. My son caught his first redfish…a 15” red. Live shrimp on the bottom worked best. We fished the rising tide until 1:30pm. No trout 🙁 We caught a stingray and some catfish too. I completely forgot to check the water temperature. T...

Re: Keaton Boat Ramp on Miami Boat Ramps!

I agree with everything you said. In fairness, every once in a while Miami Boat Ramps will showcase one boater who does everything perfectly. It would be nice to see more of the right way of doing things.

Huge Disappointment

Yesterday, I hooked into the biggest trout I ever laid eyes on! Unfortunately, the hook came out before we could get the net under it :( The trout was easily 26-27” long. Big yellow mouth. Thick as a loaf of bread. I hooked the trout in 5-6’ of water halfway between the Lighthouse and the sandbar. I...

Re: Garmin depth finder GPS on the fritz?

I just remembered to post a resolution for my gps unit that was on the fritz. My batteries were drained just enough that the gps unit would not stay on. After fully charging the batteries the gps is working fine. I have taken the boat out six times since April and the gps is working well. Thanks for...

West Flats we’re good today!

We fished the west flats for the first time this year. It was too windy to drift, so we anchored on an old gps mark. The first cast with a live shrimp resulted in a 17” seatrout. Nice start! The action was steady for the next two hours…ladyfish, sand trout, jack, sharks, and a 2’ wide stingray. One ...
