Jere, the Plantation is a gated community on the west end of the island. No access unless you own or are renting a house there. The government (Sike's) cut at this end of the island is, in my opinion, the best land based fishing spot on the gulf. Gizmo, I'll ask the $64,000 question. What's conditio...

The day started smooth and ended choppy. Clocked 100 nm on the gps. Like the previous wednesday, we started shallow, fished out to the 10 fathom line, then finished up in 35 foot range. Several large sea bass (very agressive) grunts and shorts. One keeper came on a chartreuse loud stretch around 4 p...

OD, I generally only fish for whiting when I'm staying at the beach and it's too rough to get out in the boat. I use a 10 lb spinning outfit, carolina rig about 2 ft of 10 lb leader with a small gold hook. Use enough lead to keep the wave action from dragging it down the beach, up to 2 oz if the sur...

Behind the Baptist Church, bayside of the island, just east of where the bridge meets land. You'll see them from the top of the second bridge when you're driving in.

Took a long boat ride into some uncharted territory to check out some new numbers. Got all the way out to the 40 fathom line and worked our way back in. AJ's are thick as fleas, even taking LY's off the bottom. Grouper refused to cooperate, even on live bottom. One trigger fish and one Moray eel. Wi...

Glad to have ya'll Tom. Always feel safer with friends near by. Sounded like a slow day all around. I think the fish were stunned from the cold, I know I was.

Air temp at Shield's Marina was 24 at 8am. Water temp was 57 at the fort, 47 at the light house, 55 at marker 24, and 60 at the K-tower. Fishing was slow, fish very lethargic. Only short gags and grunts on LY's. The bite was imperceptable, never knew we had a fish on until we reeled in to check the ...
