Hey Q,
Guess we need to stick to "port" and "starboard"--that "right" and "left" stuff gets me confused too... :-D

Right on TC. I have not been out there for a while, and unless Ivan did a lot more damage than I ever heard about, the Bay side (where the Scout Camp and boat landing are located) is to the left after entering the park, and the open water of the Gulf of Mexico is to the right.

Yeah--these jet-yaks have been around for several years now, but you don't hear anything about them as flats-fishing machines. Probably the sea-grass fouling problem has eliminated them from consideration for much of the Florida Gulf.

No offense taken Q--in fact I didn't mention the additional point that it was a Publix rotisserie chicken! I figured that would give rise to even more comments about maybe the lemon pepper seasoning driving the pins away! But maybe we need to sponsor a little middle school science fair project here ...

Sure 'nuff--in fact that is exactly what the guy said who put it together. It gave him a nice push on the way back to his launch site. Might also keep you from getting run over by a rabid jet skier, since you should be a lot more visible out there...

Hey Q, Now that's a new one--that pins might be 'ticular about their chow! Or maybe even blue crabs. But I've used grilled chicken (I've gotta eat too, dontcha know), cat food cans, canned salmon, fish remains, etc. and not noticed a lot of difference in the results. If you bait it, they will come! ...

Possibly. Not one, but maybe two! Had a cormorant not far away, along with its "buddy", a pelican. The pelican landed within seconds of the cormorant and followed it around trying to anticipate where the cormorant might surface. I saw the pelican pick off at least 2 fish that the cormorant...

Not many pins around as yet (3/24-3/26)

Put out my pinfish/crab trap for 2 1/2 days this past week at Shell Point using the remains of a grilled chicken for bait. Got zilch/nada/zip--no blue crabs, no pins, no nuthin'. I did catch one small (2 inch) pin on a piece of shrimp to use for live bait, but that was it. And this was in an area wh...

"T-Top" for your yak

Here's something I came across on another forum. Only problem I see is that you might need to develop an appropriate chant, such as "aiiiiiirbooorne"... But the developer says it works great, even in a 10-15 knot breeze. http://www.forumpictureprocessor.com/pictureprocessor/images/HOBIE-br...

Recent Shark Attacks

Although Florida leads the world in shark attacks, at least we don't have to worry too much about great whites since they generally prefer colder water. But here's the most recent info from Western Australia. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/03/20/australia.shark.ap/index.html Since we're on th...

Please excuse me for gettin back to the story late, but are the "crabs" being spoke about the ones you find on the beach in masses ??? If alls true, heck I might as well stop-off and pick-up some :smt017 No--those guys are fiddler crabs that burrow along the edge of the salt marshes. Much...
