CaptRon. Thanks for your insights. I was kind of cringing myself at loading 50 lb stuff on a reel. Not only is there the casting problem, but also the fact that you stand to get stripped a lot quicker with that kind of heavy line and the associated reduced capacity. Glad to hear it does not seem to ...

Tarpon DVD
abcarias wrote: The DVD has all this in it. Get it from Lit. Litt, Any way I might be able to borrow the tarpon DVD?? You going to be around FSU any time soon? If so, perhaps you could drop it in the campus mail to me in Unit 1. Or, maybe I could meet you somehere for a pickup?? What's your pleasure...

Litt, In case you are looking for a more specialized big game rig for tarpon, I will be happy to loan you my special shark fishing combo with a 7/0 hook and 125 lb test leader installed. I know the hook and leader works, because that is what I caught my 8 foot sand tiger shark (about 250 lbs) on out...

WTG Steve, Sounds good to me--been meaning to ask--how do you plan to rig for tarpon? I'm curious especially about line and leader types and strengths, as well as types of lures/baits. Went down Saturday to get a drogue at Boater's World, but it looks as if they are sold out. They were so busy, with...

Plan to join us DM Jeff, Definitely--in fact Steve and I have alreeady been talking about it. We tried to set up a date for cobia and/or tarpon before he had to leave town this past weekend. Maybe in the next week or so, if you can handle it! I need to rig some heavier duty mono/fluoro on my Shiman...

Hobie Adventure Island (the BigAI) follow-up
The BigAI-nothing to get too excited about! Guess I need to put it in a bit of perspective after Ron's earlier post. First reaction by a lot of folks to the latest Hobie yak, the Adventure Island or BigAI-WOW! Second, more reasoned, reaction--seems to me like a lot of hoopla over not much. Sorry, Ho...

Tarpon
I hear ya Steve! I think the first order of business should be to pick the most likely launch site nearest the tarpon grounds--but it sounds like you are already on that! Couple of friends who have caught smaller tarpon from yaks in South Florida have picked them up more or less accidentally, but it...

Tarpon Time(?)
Rx fisher said over on the Inshore Fishing Forum:
“The poon takes us back to the sandbar, after 1 & 1/2 hours and being dragged nearly 3 miles (per GPS) we are within leader range and call it a catch, now what.â€

The Honeymooners at Spring Creek, 6/28/06
The KFS Honeymooners, J.J. and Casper (both retired USAF folks) were passing thru on their way home to Texas after starting in the Keys and fishing their way with various KFS folks up to North Georgia, and then back down to I-10. Unfortunately, Ron and Charles couldn't make it at the last minute, so...

C'mon guys-let's not stop with the kid-stuff. Here is just the ticket for those pesky jet-skiers, or for the a-hole who moves in to anchor near you in your favorite fishing spot. Yep-as Knot, leon, and others have pointed out, the red end of the spectrum is the first to disappear as you go deeper. If you have ever done any underwater photography, both with and without flash, you can see this pretty dramatically start to happen even at only 6 feet or so, while by about 30 fee...

Yep--I carry an airhorn also, but have yet to use it (fortunately) since I rarely fish or travel in high volume boat traffic areas. However, I need to rig a holder of some sort, so it is immediately available when needed, but does not clutter up my tackle trays or deck space. http://i16.photobucket....

Dang Blue, That is one scary story, and is probably my greatest fear on the water! Shark and tarpon fishing, no problem, but idiots in a powerboat scare the crap out of me. Trouble is that kids playing grabazz and goofing around in their daddy's powerboat don't have a clue, and probably are not payi...
