And we have Tropical Storm Jose close to the heels of Irma. Projected to be a hurricane by Friday. Hopefully moves out to the Atlantic before it impacts Florida. Bermuda might have some type of damage

Re: GPS questions from a primitive fisherman
I have been using a Garmin GPSMAP 76CCSX that comes with tides. Also has the marine navaids. Have a chip with a rather old version of Bluechart. Use this as backup to the one on the boat. Check eBay out for a used one - number f them for sale - some quite cheap

Re: Plastic Armada Take Note
I lived in South Africa for 27 years.
There are a plethora of great whites to the east of Cape Town.
It has created a tourism industry for shark cage diving.
Would not want to undertake an offshore a yak "experience".

You can interpret this for yourselves - everyone can make up their own minds.
Florida Emergency Operations has raised the level to Level 1 Activation - equate this to Defcon 1 or 2.

I was at a briefing this morning in where Gov Scott was in attendance (and spoke briefly). He has declared a state of emergency in preparation for Tropical Depression 9.
He was updated by the Division of Emergency Management as to the situation.
I am not fishing this weekend.

An example of old 30lb Power Pro Braid.
Well over 40 inches way up a river near Carrabelle a couple of months back.
Never seen this size before up a river.

I use 30 and 40lb Power Braid. Been on my rods for 5 years without an issue.
Maybe also try loosening the drag a bit.
There is absolutely no stretch in this type of line.

Re: Scallop season closed in St. Joe Bay
Not closed - yet!
Democrat states "may be closed this summer". A closure would require an order from the FWC's executive team. Could come as early as next week.
Anyway - hurts tourism in the area
