I'll say this.

You can count on doing reel maintenance to get the saltwater out of it when you get home.

There's a good chance that everything including your hat is going under water during the "landing" wrestling match. This doesn't work with a green fish.

To me, the problem with limiting out in a short period of time like that, maybe especially if you know it's going to happen, is it seems rather anticlimatic. Heck, it took almost that long to walk/wade out there. Needed fish at the house, though. We ran out Tuesday. I went Tuesday late afternoon and...

The water's as clear as I've seen it since Dennis. Maybe 4' vis. I think part of it's this northish wind we've been having. The wind doesn't have as many places to blow onshore and stir up the bottom.

Live Oak Island 9/8

Went down to the island yesterday to get some yard work done. Noticed the conditions while I was there and said, "Hmmm." Checked on a few things when I got home and put everything on the back burner. Went wade fishing today in time to fish the low in the middle of the day. Took the Refishi...

A little grass on a lure causes action killing drag. I don't think it's quite as important with jigs. In fact, an effective way to fish a jig for trout is to cast behind the boat as you're drifting and let the jig fall into the grass. Hold the rod still and notice how it loads up as the boat continu...

The best way I have found to catch reds is either feast or famine. Pick an oyster bar in the bay, outside the creeks. I don't know how to tell you which one the reds will choose, they shift around. On a falling tide, while the bar is still well covered, anchor the boat off the down tide side of the ...

  Looks like you definately figured out that camera Not really. Someone gave me this set up for Christmas last year. The camera has so many features and settings that even after reading the book I still don't know what they actually do. I'm just a point and shoot, and when the dis...

West Goose Creek 9/5

Walked in and started fishing at 5 on a falling tide. Nothing started happening until the tops of the bars starting getting exposed. Even then it was only a few strikes on topwater with no hook ups. Switched to a 7M MirrOLure, but it didn't help. Don't think I even got any strikes on that. Had the d...

Oh, I should also report that boat traffic is a little light. Especially for a holiday weekend. I saw exactly one other boat this morning and only a handful yesterday.

Walker Creek 9/5

http://static.flickr.com/22/40494220_f76a7224b0_o.jpg Headed to the island in the dark this morning saw two sets of eyes in the road. Slowing, got closer and found a full size adult raccoon with a smaller one on the left side of the road. As I drew closer and slower the big one (Mama?) ran across t...

Scaling Trout

Sorry if this has been covered.

If you've got good water pressure a garden hose with a nozzle on it will blast the scales off a trout. Reduces the mess and slime on the table.

The trick is to not let the scales dry out before cleaning. Slush ice works well for this.

I used those lights this morning. :-D Okay, a little background. The boat, and a small electric motor that went with it and was trashed years ago, were won by my Grandma Pulley in some promotional thing very many years ago and always known as the Co-Cola Boat. Until now it was just a kind of kick-ar...

Walker Creek 9/4

Okay, I give up. I'm an idiot. I just spent the last couple hours in the Test Section trying figure out how to post pictures. I got them from my camera to my computer. I got them from my computer to flickr. I just can't seem to get them from flickr to here. Anyway, here's the Redfishing Machine in f...
