Would recommend a four blade prop also  You'd lose some top end speed but it helps getting on plane and alleviates some of the blow out problems.

Jacks have long yellowish pectoral fins also their mouths are similar to a trouts for feeding on bait fish whereas pompano and permit mouths are designed more like a drums mouth, kinda underneath for bottom feeding.

St Marks 10.21.06

Left lighthouse around 7:45am headed for the bird rack, goal for the day was Spanish macks. With a strong outgoing tide they were easily found and we proceeded to boat around 12 rather quickly. Things begin to calm down on the slack tide and we moved to parts west to hunt for other prey. Not to long...

I use a 7' tapered twisted leader with a loop to loop too a 2' single strand bite tippet (total 9' leader), that way it is easy to change the bite tippet when it becomes worn. The twisted leaders work great as they do not coil, will turnover a wet sock and I can usually get a whole season out of the...

Whatever you get just make sure it holds at least 275yds of 25lb test. The migratory tarpon we get up here usually average around 125lbs and will spool you in a hurry (less than a few minutes) on their first run, even with you giving chase.

Clear shallow water is one advantage and depending on the fly, being able to hold the bait within the fishes visual range while still imparting movement. However, in general I don't think there is that much of an advantage or disadvantage between conventional tackle and fly. I approach fly fishing a...

I always use loops in my fly lines. I attach the backing and the leaders loop to loop All for the loops... One thing I've learned, instead of tying a loop on the butt section or leader end of the fly line, is to nail knot a short piece of 50lb mono (6 to 10 inches) to the fly line and then tie the ...

Correct, it will allow you more options in the future... Also if your not dead set on that reel, there are several deals on ebay, the old Redington RS2's can usually be found on there for around $100, those were very tough reels. I still have one that I use on occasion and it has been abused and sti...

Go with the 10LA and buy an extra spool. Spool one with 20lb backing and a 7 or 8wt line. The other one, spool with 30lb backing and a 9 or 10wt line. Of course you'll then have to buy two rods a 7 or 8wt and a 9 or 10wt, preferably 4piece. This way you'll be prepared for what ever conditions you ru...
