Re: Bent skeg?

Just picked up the boat from Porter's.

I can vouch for the guy's timliness, friendliness, fair prices and workmanship.

I'll let y'all know how that rock guard works next time I hit a rock.

Re: Thank God For the Jack Plate!!!

We're all just having a run of bad luck with skegs. Mine's at Porter's now getting repaired and I've noticed a couple other reports of skeg issues. These winter tides are just deceptive. In a way, you are very fortunate. I'll take a bent/nicked skeg and prop over a demolished lower unit any day and ...

Re: Seatrout ethics

Several years back, me and a friend used to spend quite a bit of time soaking cut mullet in creek mouths near the Econfina. It was about the only way we ever fished for several years. We never caught a lot of 'em, but occassionally caught some jumbo size trout this way. A bunch in the 26" range...

Re: Trollin Alligator Ponit-12/29/07

You were brave. I went down to Wakulla beach for a little while yesterday and visibility was about 30 - 40 feet at best. I hate hearing boats running all around me but not being able to see them (or them able to see me). I was happy to be on the hill just observing. Glad you got dinner for your trou...

I think I've heard it all now

I think our fishery will be fine as long as everybody plays by the rules so congrats on some fine catchin'. I'm jealous.

Re: Bent skeg?

I took it to Porter's today. I waited because I was hoping to get in another weekend of fishing before some surgery. No other damage so it would have been OK for a trip. Between the weather and the job didn't get a chance. I'm going to spring for a rock guard. Hopefully me and the boat will be good ...

Good job

When they're fresh, I think the black sea bass are as good to eat as just about anything else you'll catch in these parts.

I used to run that shoreline on a high tide all the time when I had a smaller boat. Seems like you could run for a couple miles to the east without rocks. When you get close to Slough Island, slow way down for the next 10+ miles because you're liable to hit something. Thanks goodness those little 4 ...

Econfina 12-8

Launched about 11:00 at Econfina. Water was still very low but eventually got out of the river and headed to some rocky areas in 20' to see if I could find some grouper and check my crab traps. Got a dozen claws with a couple of sure 'nuff jumbos in the mix. No grouper (twice in a row I've struck ou...

Bent skeg?

Hit something hard trying to get out of a creek near Econfina yesterday. The only damage looks like a bent skeg. I was wondering if any of you had ever had this happen and how to fix it. Would the guy in Woodville (Wavel Porter?) be a good guy to take it to? Thanks for any advice. I'll post a fishin...

Anybody know of a good fishing guide?

A friend wants to hire a fishing guide as a gift to her husband. She asked me if I knew of anyone that fishes St. Marks to Carrabelle. I would like to ask opinions from you guys since my only guided trips have been offshore out of Mexico Beach. She didn't specify inshore or offshore but I assume she...
