Re: Panacea 6-12

We take along a big cutting board, a rag and a knife. Try to let them, ummm, evacuate before you bring them on board (there is still an orange stain on my old boat from Ladyfish dookie - she was no Lady). Anyways, cut them like you would a fish steak, straight perpendicular to the backbone. It makes...

Re: 750 lb Blue Marlin

I don't think it is a fallacy. I think it is really unavoidable.

PS That is a big bream.

Re: plainclothes

Plus for all ya'll worried about posing pirates, you can go to any uniform shop and buy an outfit that looks like an FWC or other agency outfit. By the time they are close enough for you to realize they ain't, they are the same distance as the plainclothes that is showing his or her badge. I get sto...

Re: outboard cutting out

I had similar problem. Does it idle okay but want to cut out under a load? merc lines turn to silicone mush with ethanol. Check your filter and separator. It will look like elmer's glue was squirted in there. Ooops, did not read your whole thread. Was your line replaced with non-merc stuff? If so, s...

Re: Panacea 6-12

Reds like cut Ladyfish too. Or so I hear. All I can tell you is that when a ladyfish is hooked early in our trip, that net is out as fast as if it is a keeper trout.

Sounds like fun grass. We got into them good beside Piney a month or so back.

Re: Shell Point/St Marks

Nothing could be worse for scallopers than Steinhatchee. I rarely scallop at St Marks, I head further west. I have not been there much lately, so I will wait for someone to pipe up if they have seen any there. Stay in the channel at St marks and you are fine until you get out to the flats. Just don'...

Re: Another Cobia Story

Well that stinks. Sorry to hear that he got it that close. On a more positive note, I bet he tells that story way more times than if he had just landed a 40" cobia. And ya'll still had something to eat. Tell him good job on the fight though. Getting it that close was still a major accomplishmen...

Nothin nicer than a proud young lady next to the fish she caught. She is lucky to have a cool granddad.

Oh, and nice fish too.

Re: Ranger Cayman bimini top

It will definitely need to be tall since I want the supports in the cockpit. I reckon I need to head down to the Ranger dealer and see if they have one with a Bimini. It can only be so tall though and fit in front of the front deck. I have seen one somewhere like that, it folded flat inside the lowe...

Re: Ranger Cayman bimini top

LOL We have been using a beach umbrella and it works okay, I just like to able to cruise around with a Bimini when scalloping. Last time we went scalloping in my skiff, we came up on a school of fish tearing it up, with not a single pole on the boat. Bet that doesn't happen again (won't be without a...

Re: some advice for a desparate angler, nothing specific

Good point. We had what we called a "fact finding" trip the other day. We managed a few fish, nothing stellar, but learned how to get around a new place and we found some new spots to try when the conditions are right. Marked a few on the GPS too.

Re: some advice for a desparate angler, nothing specific

This: http://earth.google.com/ and this:http://earthnc.com/earthnc-online-chart-viewer are also good tools to do a little spreading out. Sometimes the wind or tide is not right for only two places. I would say I frequent about 6 landings and will pick based on tide, weather, amount of time I have, e...

Ranger Cayman bimini top

My wife and daughter have requested a Bimini top for the Ranger. I would like to get one that a)is easily removeable (so when I am going I can take it off) b)fits in the cockpit area, so I can still walk around it when fishing and it will fold flat forward in between the rod lockers c) does not requ...
