Re: Reports

Had a casual mid day fishing trip down to SM. Fished from 11:30-3. Saw tons of mullet, caught around 15 trout and 6 or 7 reds. All were legal fish but let everything go. The breeze made sight fishing difficult in the waters we fished.

Re: November 21 - 24 trip info

Although the grouper fishing can be good this time of year the weather is a different story. We might have one good day a week when the wind isn't blowing too hard. That being said I would pick location based on a backup plan of inshore fishing for trout, reds and flounder. A place you can accomplis...

Re: Caught my first barracuda today...in Stoney Bayou!

I know we don't see the small ones inshore too often but we sure do have some monsters living just offshore. I see them on just about every wreck from 30' on out. The true monsters hang around the towers with some exceeding 50lbs. I've lost countless Bonita and Kings to those guys. You can occasiona...

Remington 700 25-06

This is not your standard off the shelf Remington 700. After purchasing the gun it was sent off to the guys at KDF in Seguin, TX to be accurized. The lugs have been lapped, the action bedded to the stock, the muzzle has been crowned and trigger adjusted. It is a highly accurate gun in excellent cond...

Re: Boating Fatalities- Alligator Point

Making the crossing during a tropical storm? Really... I hope that isn't the case but if so then they win the Darwin award in my mind. Always hate to hear about the loss of life but people need to realize that a stupid decision not only puts them self in danger but also the brave souls that will att...

donating rods/reels

I have some reels I don't use any more and was wondering if there is a local kids fishing organization around that I can donate them too?

dunking reels?

My standard process for cleaning fishing reels has been to lightly spray them off, hit them with some desalt spay, wait 10 min and lightly spray them off again. I also tighten the drag down before cleaning to prevent water from getting in the drag system. I loosen the drags afterwards before storing...

Re: Too Fast, Too Furious - St. Marks Drift (Oct. 6th)

As a kid we would throw a 5 gal bucket over the side and drag it to slow down out drift. I'm sure a drift sock would work better but it is an option.

Re: Fishing Apalachee Bay at Night

I've done some night fishing over the years both inshore and off and this is what I have learned. - Tasks take about 3 X longer to accomplish than during the day so plan accordantly. Be it driving, catching bait or tying knots, it takes more time. - Set the brightness to your electronics to their lo...

Re: St Marks or St Teresa Wade fishing

If you do not mind getting muddy and hiking a good ways, there are up to five tidal creeks east of the St Marks lighthouse that all hold fish at low tide. Some folks kayak to them from the bay; I prefer to hike/bike along the levees, then wade them towards the bay. They are too dangerous to wade at...
