Re: 280 Ackley Improved

Those new Nosler rifles are sweet, I shoot a Remington 700 Moutain Rifle from their Custom Shop, it has a longer barrel than norm and the kevlar stock, shoots well. I always used IMR 4831 when I was loading with a 150 Nolser NP, wonder if you need a slower powder with the AI?

Re: 280 Ackley Improved

I've shot a .280 Remington for years, which is the "standard" round, I think the Ackley Improved has a little steeper shoulder angle but not much difference in the real world. It is a good all-purpose round although like the previous poster indicated ammo availability will be limited. It i...

Re: Keaton

Dude if you are giving her a diamond at Keaton and planning on fishing good luck! I'm still learning the area but here goes... Mouth of Yates Creek N29 53.730 W83 39.228 not a secret but there are some good bars close by to the North and South. I usually leave Keaton # 1 and run about due North stay...

Re: EPIRB/ACR

As I read the VHF post I was thinking a handheld VHF is a good idea but a PLB might be a better one if you are thinking offshore. I really want to make sure I come home to the wife and kids and stuff happens so I have a VHF, handheld VHF, a SPOT2 and a PLB, the same exact one you had the link to. Th...

Re: Trolling motor repairs

They are pretty easy to trouble shoot. My Riptide SP stopped on me while on the water. Came home pulled the cover to the control unit which is in the base (head in a transom mount) and checked for loose wires etc. but saw noting and everything semed to be tight and corrosion free. There is a small c...

Spring Warrior/Keaton Beach 01/24/12

Took my dad fishing yesterday and ended up off of Spring Warrior Creek. Put in at KB around 11:00 AM, just enough water to float at the lift. Ran over to Spring Warrior and fished from about 3' in until we were almost scraping the oyster bar, with not much action. Fished with Gulp shrimp and live sh...

Re: Need spots at St. Marks

Speaking of fog banks I was sitting off of Spring Warrior Creek yesterday and in a fog bank rolled. Strange feeling, glad I had 2 GPS units on the boat. Cleared out an hour or so later and never got to the point of not being able to navigate but it sure looked strange coming across the water!

Re: Anyone using this setup on the flats?

"...The Alabama Rig and similar setups from other manufacturers consist of a weighted head with five wire leaders trailing behind. Soft plastic swimbaits and similar lures are attached to the leaders, imitating a school of baitfish. Rules Committee members believe the rig eliminates some of the...

Re: Anyone using this setup on the flats?

I read today where some of the B.A.S.S. tournaments will no longer allow this type of bait by restricting anglers to a "single lure". Not that this has anything to do with flats fishing other than it might reflect catch rates of freshwater fish :) !

It was a great time but... now she thinks catching a fish like that is normal! Should have seen her face when I told her it was too long to keep and had to be released. She was like "Say What?" It was priceless!

Keaton Beach 10/15

My college student daughter called this past week to let us know she was coming home and wanted to go fishing. We're newbies at saltwater and she has been out to KB 1 time before this past weekend. We got on the water at low low low tide with plans to fish the incoming. Ran North from KB #1 and we w...
