St. Marks - 5/1/21

Took the boys fishing. We caught a mixed bag. Lots of short trout, a nice size white tip shark, a large gaff topped catfish, a puffer fish, some mackerel, some ladyfish, and a bluefish. The trout really like a 3” new penny Gulp. The catfish, shark, and puffer liked pinfish. The ladyfish, bluefish an...

Re: Turkey Season 2021

I had two hens pay me a visit this morning. No toms. The hens came in silent and didn’t respond to my clucks. They were totally preoccupied with feeding and then disappeared after a few minutes. It was super windy! I treed an opossum during my walk into the woods. I wanted to kill it, but instead ga...

Re: Turkey Season 2021

I know where the turkeys were not this morning. Hunted diligently until noontime and couldn’t find any birds. It got very windy around 9:00 which made it difficult to hear. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Re: Garmin depth finder GPS on the fritz?

I worked on my depth finder GPS unit today. I thoroughly inspected every connection point, fuse, and wiring. I tested the batteries with my multimeter. I ran the unit non-stop for about an hour and it worked perfectly...never turned off or malfunctioned. As best as I can tell there is nothing wrong....

Re: Garmin depth finder GPS on the fritz?

Okay... I will inspect the ground wires and fuses and fuse box connections and try to identify an electrical fault. Is it ok to turn on the depth finder GPS unit while the boat is on the trailer in the garage? I don’t have any experience troubleshooting this equipment.

Garmin depth finder GPS on the fritz?

What is the typical lifespan of a Garmin depth finder GPS unit? Mine is about two years old and only gets used about twice per month. The unit is stored in the garage between trips. Today, after five hours of continuous use the unit shut off. I could not get it to turn back on. The batteries were st...

Easter Fishing the Flats

We enjoyed a great day fishing all over the flats. We trolled mackerel rigs and caught several 19-20” Mack’s. We caught a nice 18” bluefish on a 5” purple Shimmer Shad under a cork. We caught a dozen or so short trout, all 13-14”, on 4” silver Shad soft plastic lures. And, we caught a small shark on...

Re: Turkey Season 2021

Today, I hunted the same area where I have been pursuing a talkative tom the past couple weeks. This morning my setup was about 100 yards from where the tom was roosted. He gobbled several times before flying down. I saw him leave his tree and pitch down, but out of range. He replied to some soft ye...

St. Marks, 3/27

I took the family and friends out for a fish & swim. When we put in at Shields the fog was thicker than forecast, but we were confident it would burn off before 11:00. By the time we got to buoy 9 visibility was only 200 yards. We decided to troll for mackerel and lady fish. From buoy 9 all the ...

Re: Turkey Season 2021

I was only able to get to the woods one day this week...today, Sunday the 28th. It was worth the wait, but not because I killed a tom. I hunted the same woods I hunted opening weekend. This morning, right on cue at the crack of dawn, a gobbler rocked the woods! He was at least 200 yards away, and I ...

Miami Boat Ramps

Does anyone watch the YouTube channel "Miami Boat Ramps"? It is frightening to watch how inconsiderate and down right stupid some human beings can be! It's also an educational channel to watch and learn what not to do and what to do around boat ramps. I wonder what we would see if someone ...

Re: I love horny two year olds

That's a great story! Thanks for sharing. You make me feel optimistic I'll get my tom this weekend. You should submit your story to Woods-N-Water magazine.
