2016 Scallop Seminar

It's time once again for the annual Scallop Seminar in Steinhatchee. Anyone planning to be in or around Steinhatchee for the opening weekend of scallop season should stop in. It's a great opportunity to get your questions answered concerning the scallop life cycle, scallop abundance surveys, boating...

Re: Perry area favorite restaurants

I've lived in Perry all my life. I like Roy's in Steinhatchee, their salad bar is 2nd to none, but the menu is pretty basic. Good as long as you like everything fried, but keep in mind that the only thing fresh on their menu is the mullet and grouper. They also stopped serving blue crab claws. :smt1...

Costa Replacement Parts

I have a pair of Costa Del Mar Wave Killers, and the rubber sleeves that cover the temples are starting to come apart. I know that I can send them off to Costa and the warranty will cover them for $12 +/-, but I'd really prefer to just order a set and put them on myself. I don't want to have to go w...

Re: Latest Cabelas news

I haven't been in a Sport's Authority in a few years. Is it still stocked with stuff for mountain stream fishing? Last time I was in the one in Tally, I was looking for a new pair of the original Crocs. The guy helping me tried to convince me that Crocs had gone out of business, and tried to sell m...

Re: kayak on the aucilla

I put in at Goose Pasture on Sunday and took the Slave Canal to the Nutall Rise ramp (98 bridge). We threw beetle-spins off and on the whole way, but didn't catch or even see the first bream. Saw a few bass, but none were interested in the beetle-spin. I tried the creek by my house the next day with...

Re: Keaton beach marina (closed)

It was included in the Foley sale, under the name "Keaton Beach Marina LLC, but I still haven't heard anything about if or when it might be re-opened.
They'd be smart to have it up and running well-ahead of scallop season.

Re: Whats your desired action in a rod?

GLoomis Greewater Mag Medium. Far from cheap, but the best all around inshore rod you'll find. Light enough to work a small topwater, long enough to cast a country mile, and enough backbone to horse the biggest baddest redfish around. Edit- Of course, I posted before reading the original post. I ass...

Re: FYI Red Grouper closing

I really didn't intend for this one to devolve into a political discussion, but I feel I must point out that this closure is in compliance with the Magnuson Stevenson Act, which was last amended in 2006, a few years before this group took office.

FYI Red Grouper closing

It seems that the red grouper are too abundant this year, so NOAA decided it's time to shut down the season, which makes perfect sense in a bizzaro world.
