Re: St marks 7/26
Thanks for the report. It was busy yesterday. We got there about 6:20 to an empty ramp and before we launched 6-7 boats showed up. The lot wasn’t as full as last week, but someone was happy to get our spot at 12:30. I don’t put in at the lighthouse much. Has the gate always been closed prior to 5:5...

St marks 7/26
Put in at the lighthouse. Water was stained and temps are around 88 degrees with floating grass. We managed to pick up three reds, 30”, 22” and 17” along with a couple slot trout and plenty of shorts. Gold spoons were used. The rest of the family met us at the landing for scalloping around noon. We ...

Re: Tarpon Bait
Those were a figment of your imagination. There are no tarpon in the Big Bend. My best lures are always DOA BaitBusters in the deep runner version. Black back/silver side or green back/silver side. If there's a lot of floating grass, the Sebile Magic Swimmers (medium size) will work. You'll ...

Re: Tarpon Bait
This is very good information! I definitely appreciate it. I will have to invest in a good 5000 series. I don’t have anything over 4000. Is there a certain time of the day that’s best? I spoke to some tarpon fisherman at the landing and they didn’t get out there till noon to fish them. Sent from my...

Re: Tarpon Bait
It’s hard to beat a lively pinfish about the size of your hand, 24” under a cork rig, for catching tarpon. I experienced the same thing Saturday. We were drifting in 9’ near the sandbar when we noticed rolling tarpon within easy casting range. We tossed a couple small pinfish (2” long), but didn’t ...

I have seen the videos.ropeman wrote:Just go down to Shell Island Fish Camp fish cleaning spot and throw some fish heads in the water. There's a Tarpon under the dock that looks like a Pit Bull when he swallows the fish heads! It startled me the first time I saw him

Tarpon Bait
I was out on the flats yesterday and saw a handful of tarpon roll very close to the boat. I even had one swim 6 feet by the boat on a sand bar. With that being said, I have never fished for any and these fish have definitely spiked my interest. For those that fish for them, what is your favorite art...

Re: Forecast is wrong!!!
I put in at Lanark to do some inshore fishing at daylight. The wind was initially out of the south so I headed across to dog island in 1-2s to hide. Around 8am the wind switch from out of the east to northeast. There were 3+ footers in the bay and whitecaps everywhere. The the snapper fishermen were...

Re: Spoons Color
The chartreuse and silver/red head Aqua Dream are good in clear water. If the water has a reddish tint with tannin, I normally go with the pink. Gold is good in muddy water or as a universal if that's all you have. Gotcha. That’s what I have been told. I think I have every solid color ADL has. Lol ...

Re: Franklin County Ramps
I wonder how much their tax revenue has changed since closing ramps to us deplorable's? The lock down across the nation has had to severely hit tax revenue to states and local governments. They can't print money like DC. Would think they would be wanting commerce, not squelching it. I think they ha...

Re: Dog Island / Lanark
FYI, ADL is Aqua Dream Living, the full name of the company. I have known the owner, Capt. Mike Hakala, since he first started. Great guy! The original were the Capt. Mike's spoons, but they are listed as classic version, I believe, now on the web site. Foil stickers and eyes instead of the hammere...

Re: Dog Island / Lanark
Thanks for the report. Chartreuse and watermelon ADL spoons are also very effective in that clear water. Capt. Mike makes a great product. You can buy them locally at Kevin's in Tallahassee, Shields Marina Ship's Store and other spots. I modify mine by adding a stainless ball bearing swivel (35-pou...
