Re: St Marks NWR - 02 May 2021

Wading the bars whenever possible - I hate fishing out of a kayak but sometimes you have to. It's so much less aggravating wading then being in a kayak.

St Marks NWR - 02 May 2021

Lighthouse flats were alive today - picked up 12 trout, 22" to 17", along with a spanish and a jack. Everything came on the 'Lighthouse clouser' - olive over chart over white with pink fluoro fiber throat. The fish seemed amped up - really fought well. I saw lots of other fish being caught...

Re: St Marks NWR - 28 Feb

Picked up a few trout yesterday out to the west from the lighthouse - got five, including one overslot and lost a few more. A few ladyfish were around as well. The flats are still a little cool - close but not quite there. I've noticed that if that green 'sea lettuce' is still around on the flats, t...

Just along a flat, on the deep side

Re: St Marks NWR - 28 Feb

Olive over chartreuse over white with mixed gold, pearl, copper and UV pearl. The pearl and copper are fire fly tye - it's like flashabou, not krystal flash. Also, 3/16 eyes brass eyes, #2 hook. Olive over tan with an orange throat can be just as good, especially on darker days. 90% of the time I'm ...

Re: St Marks NWR - 28 Feb

Water was pretty clear, slight tannic cast to it but not bad - some floating algae as well when the tide began to move. Fly was the 'Lighthouse' clouser, with pink throat:

St Marks NWR - 28 Feb

Got out for the first time this year and hit the refuge. Had a good burst of activity between 9:30 and 10:30 around the bars - got 7 trout and a spanish and lost 3 or 4 more. One trout went 20", another 19" - rest were mostly mid-slots. Got cut off my spanish on two occasions as well. Once...

Re: SGI - 1 NOV 2020

flounder went for a clouser - "Lighthouse Special": olive over chart over white with gold, pearl and copper flash

Funny thing, the flounder picked it up when it was sitting still - I was moving to a spot to recast and just letting it sit.

SGI - 1 NOV 2020

Headed to SGI this morning for a little fishing - forecast winds showed up, but I was able to fish the beach for a few hours with the wind at my back. Not much going on with the bluebird day, but I did manage a 21" trout and a 19" red from the surf, both on a bead chain white clouser. Thes...

Re: Spring Warrior 10/16 “big surprise “

Great catch - I've noticed sometimes the big trout are active when the tide stands. Seems they don't want to waste energy fighting the current.

Re: Forecast is wrong!!!

Flats fishing has been off for me since last fall - the trout and reds don't seem to be holding in their regular places. I wonder if the hurricanes have altered the bottom - maybe some grass beds got smothered, or relocated. I'm hoping for a good fall/winter season. I've been to St George 3 times si...

Re: Terrier

I got out to the refuge yesterday - not to many people early but by the time I got in, it was crowded. Fishing wasn't that great - managed a 19" trout, a 16" flounder and a ladyfish in a couple of hours. Nice to get out, but with the refuge one of the few public places open, the week-end c...

Re: Terrier

Yes - not fishing much lately but hope to start soon - car and family (mother) health issues prior to COVID. Been tying a little bit. Had a few trips in March before the COVID hit but didn't do much. Hoping SGI opens up soon.

Gurglers can be deadly - one of my favorite ways to fish for trout. Redfish will take them too.
