Going from a Garmin which was probably 20 years old to this was a huge jump. I bought the Navionics chip and am doing live updates on my chart via my transducer. I love it. I didn't think I would use it as much as I do. I use it a lot and am still learning stuff on it.geofish wrote:How do you like the HDS?

St Marks 5/20
Went out of St Marks. Water was nice and smooth. I stopped by St Marks reef and saw several bait balls swimming around. I threw what I could around the area for a few minutes but didn't have much luck. I was only out there to check out my down imaging on my new HDS Carbon. Headed in to 5ft of water ...

Inshore fisherman looking to head out further
I mainly fish inshore. All of my rods and reels are in the 3000 class. I am going to start fishing the reefs and towers in the area an am looking for advice on rod and reel setups. What size rod and reel would you recommend for fishing St Marks reef, Rotary reef, K-tower, and any other reef or wreck...

Re: St. Marks 7-29
The tidal pool east of the lighthouse always holds bait, at high & low tides. I throw an 8' net with 3/8" mesh. A half dozen throws will get you all you need, if you look for bait ripples. Is this what shows on Google Maps as Sand Cove? It looks to be about 1/3 mile east of the light house...

St Marks 8/5
Headed out about 7:30. First spot I pulled up to was Sprague point. I didn't stay long as the wind and waves were trying to push me straight into the bank. I decided to try Big Pass. After a few cast I managed to boat a 19.5" redfish. The wind again was trying to push me into the bank so I figu...

New to me boat and I love it
She is an older boat with plenty of life left in her. 1992 Sea Squirt 17 with a 2002 Johnson 90. I am going to add a Bennett Self leveling tab system. Does anyone have any experience with these. Manual tabs would have been nice but the budget didn't allow it at this time. https://i.imgur.com/OGIbMlt...

Re: Scallop survey
Hopefully Redfin won’t blast you for putting a question where local inshore reports are supposed to go. But from what I’ve heard, St Marks is barren this year How is the survey not a report? It reports the numbers at the locations reported. Sounds like a report to me. I just followed up the report ...

Scallop survey
The 2018 survey is out. Anyone know why Wakulla isn't listed? Looks like the numbers are low for everyone but the eastern part of the bend. Has anyone gone out of St Marks and taken a look?

Re: Where'd the fish go?
I was having a rough day on Saturday. After about 3 hours of fishing the river and creek mouths I was skunked. Decided to head to the rock garden and drift. Managed 3 keeper trout out in about 5' of water. Caught a few shorts and a 2' bonnethead shark as well. We were using live shrimp on a cajun th...

Re: St. Marks
Since we are telling, what were you dragging through that mackerel hole to catch those trout? I was using Saltwater Assassin 4" sea shads in Electric Chicken rigged to a jig head and was also throwing a DOA deadly combo. Both were catching them. I was alternating bait. If I missed one with one...
