Re: NFGFC Redfish Tournament 2/12/11

...and our wadefishing team spent the day thigh-deep in the frigid stuff, all for a 2-red total of under 10 pounds. Apologies if I offended anybody with my spandex knickers at the weigh-in, but they kept me - barely - from succumbing to hypothermia.

March can't get here soon enough!

Re: Military Rules

You obviously aren't up to speed on the Air Force, as regards Rule #9. We always have the golf courses constructed adjacent to our air-conditioned, liquor-stocked executive offices.

Keeps us from having to hurry.

GO ZOOMIES!

Re: NFGFC REDFISH TOURNAMENT ROLL CALL

Found somebody with a boat. Now I have a week to learn how to fish out of one, so...

Gary D and Andy are in, assuming I can register at the meeting tonight. Must be at a road race in Tallahassee until 8:30am on the 12th. Is it mandatory to be at registration between 5:30-6:15am? If so, I'm out.

Re: NFGFC REDFISH TOURNAMENT ROLL CALL

Advance apologies for this naive question: WAYYY back on this thread somebody announced that loners can still participate by doubling the weight of their single red. Is this really a rule change, or should I go look in the mirror and check for a hook in my mouth? Gary (the wadefisher who now needs t...

RedTrout Shootout Date Change?

I have seen it listed variously as April 2 and April 23. Their own site was "under construction" as of last night. Anybody have an inside track on the confirmed date?

Pedal drive question

Is there a major speed difference between the Mirage Sport & Outback? Everything I usually wade with fits into less than 10 feet of boat, based on the cheap-arse beater sit-in I've paddled for boat-only tourneys. But maybe the higher length/width ratio of Outback vs Sport makes it quicker? Along...

Re: Yes I am a redneck, are you?

Coupla few facts, easily verified: 1) Michael Chertoff was Homeland Security Chief from 2005-2009, during which he strongly advocated full body scanners and pushed for their installation across the nation. 2) After his stint in Homeland Security, Chertoff's private security consulting firm (the Cher...

Re: Advice for new boater?

Thanks for the ideas, Eric (and all of you!). After reading all the replies, I think I'll take a chance with the Torquedo 1003 and a Pro Strike square stern canoe (just under 12 ft, 48 lbs). I can wheel-walk that set-up along the levees. Definitely limits the options, compared to the true boaters. B...

Re: Advice for new boater?

Thanks for all that insight, folks. I didn't know those Hobie pedals demand 18" of draft, and had not thought about steering issues in current. Fishing on foot is productive under certain conditions, but I'm a one-trick pony: if there's a north wind, moderate surf temp, and an all-day low tide ...

Advice for new boater?

I've done okay wade-fishing the last decade, but the calf-deep mud slogging has taken a toll on my knees. I want to move up to a boat, but can't abide the idea of trailering. Trying to decide between putting a Torqeedo 1003 electric (supposedly 3hp equivalent) on a cartop square stern canoe, versus ...
