Re: East River

UGA The only thing that might be tricky is getting your canoe past the gate. There is a narrow spot that can be a little tricky with a larger kayak. My 13' makes it through, but it could be a little dicey with a larger canoe. Be prepared for nasty mud and rocks getting to the water, especially at lo...

Re: Winter top water and popping corks

Thanks for the feedback. I've been bouncing soft plastics on jig heads, swimming chatter baits, and shrimp. While they seem to work, I'm spending a lot of time getting caught on oysters and losing more tackle than I'd like. Tempting to use something like top water or popping corks to avoid the oyste...

Winter top water and popping corks

A creek I've been fishing is full of oyster bars and I've lost a few jig heads to them over the last few trips.

Does anyone have success using top water or popping corks in sub 50 degree weather when targeting those deeper holes in creeks?

Re: First Time Fishing Low Tide in Winter - Learning Occurred

Silver king: these were airboats, no question. I never saw them with my own eyes, but they were close to me and I was just outside Big Cove at the time. I grew up near Lake O and spent a good but of time on those airboats. Walking out of Lake O through gator infested sawgrass was enough to cure me o...

Re: First Time Fishing Low Tide in Winter - Learning Occurred

That makes sense. I was surprised when I heard several airboats in what sounded like the refuge last weekend. I thought maybe it was a special waterfowl season or something similar.

Perhaps they are on the edge of the refuge?

Re: First Time Fishing Low Tide in Winter - Learning Occurred

Recently joined the obnoxious airboat crowd after being one of those haters. Can’t believe what I’ve been missing all these years cussing them. Was sitting at a spot fishing in minutes on that low tide last Saturday. Boats grounded at fenholloway entrance when we left and still there when we came b...

Re: First Time Fishing Low Tide in Winter - Learning Occurred

I was kayaking at St Marks Refuge same time you were on Saturday. Perfect conditions, with blown out low tide, and too cold & windy for most. Nonstop action on trout & reds in the (REDACTED NAME) creek holes. The trick is to handcart or bike trailer your kayak along the Deep Creek levee eas...

First Time Fishing Low Tide in Winter - Learning Occurred

I picked up my kayak in early March, just before the pandemic really started and didn't really get a chance to fish until late March. I've never really seen the Winter low tides here. I've been focused on hunting for the last two months and haven't fished at all. I decided to fish St. Marks on Satur...

I watched last night and really enjoyed listening to Pat. It's always a treat to listen to someone with deep knowledge on a subject nonchalantly drop tidbits that completely change the way you think about something. As a newbie, it was a very informative show. Thanks and keep em coming. Sent from my...
