Re: Red Tide

My parents were at seagrove beach last week. They said there were dead fish and eels on the beach. It affected my father’s respiratory system so much they ended up having to leave early on Saturday.

Florida Sportsman article about the red tide epidemic

Interesting read about what happens when environmental laws are gutted and how it has affected the fishing in middle and south Florida.

Lanark early morning

Pulled into town at 2 last night and got the twins in bed and asleep by 3. Woke up at 545 and decided to fish off a dock near my house for the morning bite. Got there around 6 and the wind was howling. Grass was fouling my topwater farther out but close in it was thin enough so I could work my bait....

Possible extended federal snapper season

Just got this email. Looks like there may be some extra federal snapper days this year. Good news for all hopefully. Re: New to saltwater fishing

You are already doing one thing right. I learned to fish out of St. Marks fishing off those same oyster bars. Anchor up when the tide is moving and throw live pin fish, shrimp or cut bait out on the bottom and wait. That's how I caught my first red. There is a thread right under this one on how to c...

Re: Charter advise please!

But correct me if I am wrong but it will still have to be within state waters. Just making sure you realized that. Hard to really get on the grouper and not go farther south.

No matter what I hope you kill it!!!

Have a great day

Re: How to fish oyster bars on the flats?

The best time is when there is moving water around the bars. Not necessarily high or low tide. Just anchor up near where you can see water being pushed between bars or at an edge and throw into that area or at the edge of it. Soak some live pinfish or cutbait on the bottom or throw a gulp and work i...

Re: FWC Looking for input on flounder, sheepshead, tripletai

Threw in my 2 cents to the FWC. Thanks for keeping us in the know silver king. I love to fish and conservation is important to be able to pass along this resource. 10 or 15 fish bag limits are excessive in almost all cases. I'm fine with one redfish as well. Plenty of meat on a bronze bomber. I also...

Re: Suggestions for saltwater fly setup

My recommendation would be to look under the fly fishing section. Terrier seems to have it nailed as far as fly fishing is concerned. Also an 8 weight is pretty heavy, I would think a 6 weight might be better for trout and reds unless you are getting into some bull action. Finally when I got into fl...

Re: New member---St. Marks fishing?

Congrats on your first red. Go dawgs. If you are fishing out of a kayak the oyster bars at St. Marks are the easiest place to stick a red. Also we just pull up onto the bars and fish off of them. If you are looking to spend a day fishing it can be nice to stretch your legs. You can set your drag loo...
