Snook Kill
There is an article in today's "Fishing Wire" about the freeze and effects on the Snook fisheries. The Snook and Gamefish Foundation encourages you to report fish kills to the FWC. Report the killed fish to FWC’s Fish Kill hotline. You can do this by phone (800-636-0511) or online at http:...

Re: Crab trap etiquette
It is being created as a result of the high number of lost traps in the Keys and S FL, but the project covers the entire state and is for all ghost traps. Thanks for reporting the ones you've seen.

Re: Crab trap etiquette
Actually there is a new program being launched by the Snook and Gamefish Foundation (SGF) and FWC to report lost traps. Please go to http://snookfoundation.org/ to view an article about this new project. The project is a result of the huge number of ghost (lost) lobster traps in the Keys, but is cer...

Re: Crab trap etiquette
I was researching your question about ghost traps over the weekend for a project that the Snook and Gamefish Foundation is working on. The bottom line is it is against the law to "molest" any trap, even if it is unmarked, derelict, has no buoy, and is full of crabs, lobster, etc. with no e...

Re: Chum block
Beeready: I was only comparing to Shields, which was the posted recommendation before mine. Between them and Shell Island, there's no comparison. I've always found truly good folks at all the other places you mentioned. Geez, Chill!

Re: Cast net recommendations
Some of the best nets made are by Tim Wade over in Melbourne FL. They are reasonably priced for the great quality you'll get. You can find his phone number online and he will talk with you about what you will want to net, depth, weight, etc. and will make a net for you or refer you to a tackle store...

Re: Panama City Beach "The Pass"
I fished there last Thursday, but mostly offshore for Kings. There was a lot of action in St Andrews pass with folks catching Reds. Trolling spoons or bucktails in the trough just off the beach was producing Lady Fish and a few Spanish Mackerel and Blues. If the sea is calm the close in public numbe...

Re: Federal Fisheries Legislation Introduced
That is a great piece of legislation and will be pushed by the Sports-men's Caucus in the Congress. Having Congressman Danny Webster as a sponsor is great. He is a former Speaker of the House in the FL Legislature, and very well respected in DC. Hopefully word of this Bill will spread through the va...

Re: St Marks info needed (accommodations, navigation, etc)
The folks at Shell Island Fish Camp (AKA St Marks marina) are great people and provide a good base of operations for you. They have cabins, motel rooms and park model cabins; slips for your boat after you launch at the fort ramps; and bait, ice, and tackle. They can also fill you in on what and wher...
