St. Marks scallop report
Me, the wife unit and the 9 year old boy headed out from the fort in the Tin Can (15" jonboat with mother-in-law's face painted on sides of bow) at around 9:30 am. Headed out past the lighthouse and east towards to the ultra-secret scalloping zone, identifiable only by GPS coordinates, or whisp...

Re: Whats happening at St. Marks
It seems like it's hit and miss. Some days lots of trout, some none. My only advice is if you're not getting hookups within 5 or 10 minutes on jigs under poppers or top water plugs, move to another place/water depth and try again. Rinse, repeat. If fishing is a bust no matter where you go, and espec...

St. Marks report August 8
Got to the ramp at the crack of dawn, fellow board regular was there with his 22' Carolina Skiff too (sorry forgot his name ). Weather was nice, tide was incoming and about an hour from dead high so the day had much promise. A couple weekends ago I got my trout limit, one was 20" and the others...

Re: Sharkgirl
Good to see kids fishing. When I was a kid I was crazy about fishing, so was my dad. My own kids could hardly care less! "It's too hot." "There's too many bugs." It seems like that's about all I hear from my own kids if the action isn't fast & furious. The bonnet heads I'll e...

Popper jig rigs for trout: Gulp shrimp vs. rubber shrimp?
I know Gulp shrimp on jigs under poppers are proven trout getters, but I am tired of pinfish picking away at them every cast and ruining them. It's starting to get expensive. What's a good tougher cheaper alternative to Gulp shrimp that will still get trout? Fake rubber shrimp? Bucktail jig? Rubber ...

Re: Best plan to catch Reds out of St. Marks?
Thanks! Should we try creek mouths, oyster bars? Morning better than mid day? Does tide matter?

Best plan to catch Reds out of St. Marks?
Me & the boy are planning to head out from St. Marks tomorrow. Neither of us have ever caught a redfish, and we want to. What's the best plan for getting some? Skitterwalks or Zara Spooks at creek mouths? Up into creeks a ways? Or would we be better off trying around oyster bars, and if so, ones...

Re: St Mark's scallop trip
If you were anywhere near Grey Mare rock you may have seen me, I was the gross looking guy in the little jonboat with the shark mouth on it (see pic to the left). I managed to limit on trout, but it took 6 hours. Did not catch any shorts, all were keepers, all on Gulp jigs under Cajun Thunders. Caug...

Saturday July 18 St. Mark's Report
Went out from St. Marks with the wife unit. Put in at the fort at about 7 am, FOGGY, was a little concerned it might be too thick to navigate but it was OK once I got into the river and it seemed to dissipate pretty soon afterwards. Manatees everywhere, saw a giant gator swimming in the river too. P...

Sailcats & Bonnetheads
If I can boat at least one bonnethead and a couple big sailcats I'll call that a good day. A good day being one where I actually bring back a decent amount of meat for the fry pot or grill. Sure trout is good but EVEN IF you limit out you're not talking about a whole lot of meat. I ate some sailcat ...
