Re: Hagen's Cove kayaking
Also suggest the Navionics phone App. Great for measuring paddles and checking mean low tide depth.

Re: Hagen's Cove kayaking
Big Grassy is the island just south of Hagan’s cove. Where I have had success is paddling around past Piney Point and then out in the open area between the point and the island. It is about a mile to 1.2 mile paddle but I have always had better success there than paddling straight out from the cove....

Re: Hagen's Cove kayaking
High tide shows as plus 3 feet. Low is around 6PM and still plus 0.7. You should be able to paddle in and out of Hagen’s Cove at those times without problem. I’ve had great success for scallops in past years taking the yak over towards big grassy. Still fairly shallow over there so best to be on top...

Re: What was the most trophies you’d lost in a day?
First dip in salt for my new tandem kayak, my son and I went out to the oyster bars of Wakulla beach back in May. I was tossing a gulp next to a bar. My son points in the water and there sits a bull red at least three feet long. With my gulp in its mouth. The fish looks at us for a second and then t...

Re: RV/camper slot lease
Unless there’s a charge, there’s no harm in getting on a waiting list. The day can come. After three years on the list, I finally got a dry slip at Shields Marina just in time for scallop season. Taken the Key West out twice since season started and it is a different world not having to trailer it d...

Re: St. Marks 7/3 - scallops and fish
The nasty storm was Wednesday on opening day. We got caught in it running in as it came up fast Glad it wasn’t my first time out there. Everyone put on life vests and we plowed our way in. Prompted us to take off when it got dark Friday, which turned out to be only a shower at the River mouth. Other...

Re: 2008 Carolina Skiff JV17
Did you buy the 1720 Key West? If so welcome to Key West ownership. I have a 2001 2020 dual console. Compromise family boat as it isn’t the best fishing boat with not being able to work around the console but is a fabulous boat to load up a crew for scallop season. Had to check the NADA on it yester...

Re: St MARK’S Friday 6/17
Was out St. Marks Sunday and found some clearer water a bit southwest of Black rock in about 5 feet where we were using sabiki to catch pinfish. Never did find the trout. Tried fishing in six to eight feet where the water was darker. Moved back shallower but didn’t find the clear water again. Sent f...

Re: Kayak trip
Think I was fishing close to you about three weeks ago off the long bat at St. Marks. If it was you saw you catch a huge red. Quite a rig you have. We had a good time that day catching five slot trout after we started drifting away from the long bar out over the flats. Also still trying to solve the...

Photo makes me miss where I grew up. Clearly Egmont and Mullet Key at the mouth of Tampa Bay.

Re: First day of season
We had a great day Saturday off Dog Island. 28 inch Grouper and 5 snapper up to 24 inches and a flounder for the three of us. Live pin fish was the key but we had a tough time getting them on the sabiki. Got about seven pins and got three of the snapper on them. The rest we caught on LY’s. Squid bro...

My son and I are going out with a buddy Friday in his boat. First time for Red Snapper. Usually only an inshore guy.
