You can usually find the open face Shimano FX2500-FX4000 with a decent rod combo for around $20-30 at walmart. They are great combos for inshore/freshwater. My boys (13 and 15) still use theirs and we have had them for about 5 years now and have held up nicely with just a quick freshwater rinse.

I had a nice size shark steal a red from me west of the lighthouse. He was only in about 1-2 ft of water. Never knew reds jumped like tarpon until that shark showed up.
