Re: Tarpon Bait
It’s hard to beat a lively pinfish about the size of your hand, 24” under a cork rig, for catching tarpon. I experienced the same thing Saturday. We were drifting in 9’ near the sandbar when we noticed rolling tarpon within easy casting range. We tossed a couple small pinfish (2” long), but didn’t g...

Lake Lafayette and Lake Jackson
I’ve been doing lots of freshwater fishing lately. Been catching bass on Rebel PopR’s, gold Rapala minnows, and Bass Assassin jerkbaits. On Lake Jackson anything that floats and stays above the hydrilla and looks like a minnow produces strikes. On Lake Lafayette the cypress trees hold nice fish that...

St. Marks 7/3 - scallops and fish
I took my boys scalloping for their first time. We found enough for dinner and left some for another day. We only had to make one stop to find them, near the big sandbar about ½ mile south. Then, we drifted for a while and fished one rod with pinfish under a cork and one rod bouncing jigs. We caught...

Fiberglass and gel coat repair
I took my ProLine to Mike’s Marine Ways to have some damaged gel coat and exposed fiberglass repaired. Wow!!! Mike and his crew do great work. Quick turn around too. The boat is 20 years old, so naturally the gel coat is no longer factory original. Somehow, they matched the color perfectly. I will b...

St. Marks 5/16
Drifted the east flats this afternoon. Landed a dozen short trout during an hour long drift. I used pinfish and live shrimp under corks. Every pinfish got slammed within a minute of hitting the water. The shrimp did okay, but not as good. No puffer fish today! The water was 4 feet deep and the tempe...

Re: Have the seas calmed down?
How accurate are the applications like Windy at forecasting the wind and wave conditions? I use Windy and have found it to be accurate only half of the time. I am lucky to get out on the water once a week, so I don’t know if Windy is the best application?

Re: Local YouTube channels or other media
Some of the local(ish) YouTubers I watch are: Angler Up with Brant. He fishes primarily the Pensacola area, but his enthusiasm and content make him worth watching. Brent Schirmer is pretty good. He fishes the Tampa area, but many of his techniques work in our ‘neck of the woods’. Salty Fins is good....

Re: last three months fishing reports
I enjoy your reports and trying to put your shared knowledge to use. A couple of suggestions for future reports...where to find and catch sheepshead; where to find and catch black drum; and, more tips about proper etiquette (I liked your comment about “if you can’t cast into the other guys boat, you...

Re: Sea Tow to the rescue
I only have one key to my ignition and have wondered where I can get another key? Where can I get a duplicate key made?? A professional locksmith or somewhere else?

Lake Jackson 12-28
I decided to try Lake Jackson on Saturday. I got on the water around 2:30 pm and fished until 4:45. I landed two chunky 2 lb bass and missed three other strikes. All the strikes happened on a plain green scum frog. The bass preferred a six inch retrieve with a short pause. The bass were caught where...

Oodles of Deer Today!
I saw more deer today than the previous two weeks combined! I was able to draw on two deer an hour apart, but they did not step into a shooting lane. I had one deer walk in so quietly behind me it must have teleported!! Luckily, I didn’t make any dumb moves and saw it before it saw me. For some odd ...

Yes...the water around Rock Island is still dark brown. It was hard to see the bottom even in 2’.

Econfina - 10/24
We fished the falling tide...12:30’ish until 5:30pm. The bite was difficult. We started fishing top water lures and gold spoons around Rock Island. After more than an hour of casting practice we decided to try the 4 - 6 ft range. It sucked...one bite after an hour of drifting and trolling. We tried ...

Econfina 10/5
Me and my fishing partners caught three limits of trout, plus a mixed bag of bass, jacks, lizardfish, catfish, etc. All of the trout were caught in 8 - 10 feet during the outgoing tide. We were dragging and hopping Gulp jigs; Zmann’s, some old Rip Tide shrimp imitations, and other plastics. Just abo...

St. Marks - 9/27
Decided to leave work two hours early today. Went to St. Marks. Fished for only two hours...drifted the flats for the first time. Only landed one fish...my very first cobia! 26”, so I had to let it go. It put up one heck of a good fight on my light tackle. I was bouncing a green colored soft plastic...
