Re: Passive-Aggressive in St Marks Refuge
I winged a 4 ounce swimbait into the side of a bass boat in the St Marks River that ran within 15-20 yards me (while I was in a KAYAK no less) at about 30 mph and almost swamped me. Made a satisfying "THWACK!" you could hear for a hundred yards and most definitely took off some clear coat...

Re: What river flies?
The answer to the "what fly" question is ALWAYS the Clouser Minnow. It catches everything. I've caught bluegill, shell cracker, crappie, warmouth, green sunfish, flyer bream, longear sunfish, largemouth bass, spotted bass, creek chub, seatrout, redfish, snook, mackerel, needlefish, lizardf...

Re: Ascend 10t
I had the 12 version, floor cracked under the seat in less than a year and it developed a mysterious leak that nearly sank me twice miles from civilization way up the Aucilla. Lost my receipt and neither bass pro nor ascend would do anything about it. Someone stole it a while back and I chuckle ever...

Re: Newbie to fly fishing
Honestly a 6-7 wt will handle any trout you hook and all but the biggest reds. They are not so hot in the wind though or if throwing big heavy flies. 8 wt will land most anything short of a shark and throws in the wind better. I hardly ever throw my Loomis 8wt now that I got a new 7wt Fenglass, thin...

Re: Horn Spring
I went pretty far up there a few weeks back, the yellow flies like to picked me up and carried me off. The upper St Mark's is a sad reflection of what it was 10 years ago. It used to be clear with lots of eel grass and ate up with bass and bream of all kinds. All the eel grass died some years back, ...

Get better soon!
There is some nasty stuff in warm southern waters. If you get Vibrio in a cut you can be dead within a couple days. 25% of dying even with treatment.. Nasty stuff that gets several fisherman every year.

Re: snook
Hope some of those snook are smart enough to stay up in spring fed creeks along with the Wakulla and St Marks where they can survive year around. It'd be neat to have a stable snook population here.

Re: Fishing in Tallahassee?
The absolute worst thing likely to happen to you fishing on water management property is that you would be asked to leave. I would not sweat it in the slightest. Besides, who's even going to be back there besides some homeless guys? No one who minds you fishing at any rate.

Re: SM refuge closer?
During the last govt shutdown the Refuge was open, someone who isn't me may have taken advantage of the situation to ride their dual sport motorcycle down all the trails and dike roads there that normally are closed and patrolled by "The Man" to reach some fishing spots otherwise not acces...

Re: Stay home or fish?
I've had some of my best days fishing in awful weather, whether it's storming like a hurricane or freezing cold and windy. Fishing in those conditions tends to be either awful or quite good and rarely in between. Gary, I think you've got that refuge dialed in better than just about anyone! Out of cu...

Who sells big, wild Golden Shiners?
Anyone know a source? Seems hatchery shiners are about all you can find these days. I know Oyster Island bait and tackle had them at one point but not at the moment.

Re: Louisiana Shark Attack
I remember someone relating how they'd seen a bullshark feeding on a dead manatee in the Wakulla.. Nothing really to stop them from swimming up as far as they please.
