Re: Thoughts on chartplotter/sonar

Here is a thread on the Hull Truth regarding the Navionics maps on Garmin units. My takeaway was that when it works it's nice, but when it doesn't it's a nightmare and it appears that it frequently does not work. https://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/1205722-garmin-navionics-vision-1...

Re: Thoughts on chartplotter/sonar

I think I would have been better off just getting a dedicated iPad with Navionics app for inshore fishing. I've been thinking about doing that as well. As long as you are inshore near St Marks the wireless signal is good. Econfina was a little spotty last time I was there. I downloaded the maps to ...

Re: Thoughts on chartplotter/sonar

I just bought the same unit a few days ago as well. I have to say, coming from using an iPad with the Navionics app and an old machine just for depth/temp, I was very underwhelmed with the details in the Garmin map. The Navionics app has a LOT more detail, hazards, intuitive layout, and user generat...

Re: St Marks 3-17

Took the family out yesterday. Based on the weather and fog, we slept in and got on the water around 9:30. Water was mid to high 60s and there was very little wind till noonish. We went straight for the east flats and started shallow (2') and worked our way out deeper. We caught a keeper flounder an...

He repaired a rod for me and did great work at a very reasonable price.

MK Ulterra reliability

I've been searching for a riptide Terrova (80lb) for a while now with no luck. Drove through Gainesville yesterday and just happened to check bass pros site. They had one Ulterra and I picked it up for about ($500) more than the Terrova. The best I can tell is the major difference is the auto deploy...

Re: Help … needing a range/space to use.

What Fred said. I'm not brave enough to test my luck at the ANF range anymore, I've got kids to think about. I'm being only a little facetious. That place is the wild west and muzzle discipline and basic range safety guidelines are barely an afterthought for many. Wakulla Sheriff's range and Talon a...

Texas Eye jig heads

I started to put this in the fishing report thread, but decided this might be worth its own thread. Grass remained thick this weekend and traditional jig heads tend to snag a lot of grass. Ive been using a Texas eye jig head to try and mitigate the grass. It does a great job of staying weedless (wor...

Re: Personal Fishing report Oct 9, 2021

We went out Sunday and fished east flats. Stayed in 3-8' because the wind was cranking and I was a bit worried about the low tide sneaking up on me. Didn't bring a drift sock and really regretted that as we were drifting fast. Decided to try live shrimp (free line and popping) and caught a ton of ca...

Re: Kayak for bad back - recommendations

Second the Harry Smith recommendation. I have a FeelFree Lure 13.5 that is about as comfortable/stable of a kayak as they make. One of the major features is the seat and you can adjust it easily while in the kayak. That being said, there are a lot of tradeoffs for comfort and stability. It is a barg...

Re: Back pain doctor/medical center in Tallahassee?

Can't recommend a back doctor, but Dr. Gene Jenkins (Chiropractor) has done wonders for me. Very good friend of mine was scheduled for a back surgery that would have put him out of work for 6 months for recovery. Went to a chiropractor, discovered his hips were out of alignment and within two adjust...

Re: Replacement Swingback cooler options

They're less expensive. The Wise is about 2/3 the price of the Todd.

Replacement Swingback cooler options

I have a 70qt Todd Swingback cooler that needs replacing (the lid hardware rusted out). Finding the Todd cooler in stock it pretty tough, but I'm finding lots of Wise 70qt coolers that appear to be identical. Has anyone replaced a Todd with a Wise? Is there a significant drop in quality? Sent from m...

Re: First time, need some advice

+1 on Sea Tow Picked up a pontoon boat about a year ago to cruise the river and had it checked out. Got the thumbs up from the mechanic and brought the family down the river. Made it to about marker 51 in the river and she died. Couldn't get her going again and luckily had purchased sea tow about a ...
