wx:

How many oz. was that jig head? And what action took the grouper (fast short strokes off of the bottom, etc?)?

Tks,

The whiting will probably take them now, as well as in summer. Hook them by piercing the mid point of the body part on the bottom of the crab that kind of looks like a knife, and passing through to the other side (top). If you get a bunch worth saving, you can par boil them at home for maybe 15 seco...

Have any of you ever used a Mighty Mite Anchor? Does it hold in sand at all? Is it hard to power off a rock, or does it about pull out your cleat? Any other suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. I am considering getting one to augment my danforth style when over rock or wreck.

BL: Maybe I didn't have the right attitude, or something. When I first called to ask about the disk I had ordered, they were not concerned at all that I had not gotten the product. Began to blame another distributor, who was supposed to drop ship the item. This ticked me off, and I told them I didn'...

Wanted to clue all you guys about my recent experience with Nobeltec and Nautical Companies (who make marine software, Nobeltec has bought Nautical) and especially the "Chartview Planner" software. Bought Chartview Planner, and found that a data file was missing from the disk, so it would ...

I have it on my Calcutta 250 and Penn International 965 Casting reels (50 lb) and on a Calcutta 700 and Penn 330 GTI (80 lb). I like it a lot, so far. Very sensitive, and given the extra strength for diameter I don't worry about breaking it on a fish. However, use a leader that is under the test of ...

Double:

The weather doesn't look too hot for tomorrow, probably good chance of rain down on the coast.

That said, see if you can anchor a bit upcurrent from the reefs, and drop back over structure. That way you can help avoid hanging your anchor on the reef.

As others have said on the FS site, NOAA, and for that matter all the other weather forecast guys, should either quit making a marine forecast or get better. They are really pathetic. The "nice and calm" forecast day was rough, rough, rough. Left Lanark Marina at 7:30, and the tide was REA...

Has anyone used Chartview Planner? Just bought version 3.0, which comes with Tides & Currents, and have problems. 1)Tides does not work at all 2)Chartview Planner is NOT intuitive to use. I think of myself as pretty computer literate, but this software is very complicated. The charts that come w...

Hey Tom:

What was the general area for this hotspot? And how deep?

(looks like trolling isn't catching much this year - any idea why? I'm guessing that there is still too much bait around to entice the grouper)

Depends on your price range and the purpose of the outfit. I have been very pleased with my Penn International 965 baitcasting reel. Is best for live baiting, or casting bigger lures. Has a good feel, a high-quality drag, and casts well as above. I have it mounted on a Star Inshore Graphite Composit...

For used, Makos and Aquasports are still pretty good. The older Aquasports, like my '86, were made before the quality dropped. I would look for a sound, older hull with a new motor, if you are looking used.
