Re: Aucilla fishing trip 1/7-8

Nice report. I really really miss fishing with my Dad. I will say you are a much braver man than me to make your maiden voyage in your brand new shiny bay boat at low tide on the Aucilla. Respect. :) The last time I fished there in the winter I scratched up my Kayak within 100' of the boat ramp. :sm...

Nice rig.

What prop are you running? I have a 115 SHO on a flats skiff.

Re: Lighthouse ramp

I'll bet there is still a drop-off at the end of the Lighthouse ramp too. I watched a guy wade in there a few years ago and he said it dropped off pretty good.

Ken, I completely agree..... if you get a chance to fish with your son, anytime, anywhere, you take it.

Re: Lighthouse ramp

Fishing with your kids is the best. They remember this stuff forever. I am curious why in mid December you wanted to launch at dark thirty on a neg low? I would almost guarantee you an 11:00 am launch and fishing the high water all afternoon would have produced more fish. The Sun warming the incomin...

Re: St. Marks 12/11--12/12

Nice report. We are having an unusually warm and dry early winter.

You must have local knowledge and a very shallow draft boat to have fished that area this weekend.

Re: Airboats in the St. Marks Refuge.

FM.......If you knew me (we don't live far apart) you would know I'm a defender of little old ladies everywhere. What I can't stand is someone who flaunts the local fish and wildlife laws, often bragging about it. That person is stealing from me and my son, and his son too. I plan to stop in at the ...

Re: Airboats in the St. Marks Refuge.

If it's legal for them to be there I'll put up with them like I do Jet Ski's, idiots at the boat ramp, and other various things that annoy me. IF.....it's not legal I'm going to turn them in every time like any other poacher or thief. I was trying to determine if airboats were legal within the bound...

Re: Airboats in the St. Marks Refuge.

Great.......so it's legal just annoying as heck. Maybe I should just give in and buy one. I could fish back where Gary does anytime I wanted to, laughing at the low tide mud flats. :smt006 And......while I'm at it buy a big azz Jetski to ride around on during the summer. Then everybody would love me...

Airboats in the St. Marks Refuge.

I thought Airboats were prohibited from the Refuge? It was my understanding they scared the nesting birds? The last few trips there have been one or sometimes two airboats working the shoreline and creeks between the lighthouse and the Aucilla. Nothing ruins a peaceful day of fishing than the noise ...

Re: Sign the Pledge

Somewhat humorous to me to see gill nets and fisheries issues being discussed here on the "look at all the meat I bought home" forum. That jab aside gill/entanglement nets are indiscriminate in the fish they capture. Many of the fish suffocate while the net is set and retrieved. So if you ...

Re: What was I doing wrong on Sunday?

I will say that overall the number of folks fishing St. Marks these days is ridiculous. (and sad to an old-timer like me) That's why I was shocked at the lack of boat trailers at the lighthouse ramp. Maybe the tide was too low for anyone that knows the conditions. It was just high enough for my boa...

Re: gulp $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Z-man baits do float. I have picked one up that a fish pulled off, put it back on the jig, and continued fishing numerous times. I often fish the same bait on multiple trips. I would argue that one bait that is nearly indestructible vs 5 packs of lost gulps per trip might make Z-man the more environ...

Re: What was I doing wrong on Sunday?

Based on some 50+ years of fishing St. Marks you were not doing anything wrong, you are just there at the wrong time. Late Fall/Early Winter is a challenging time to fish. The fish have tails and they use them a lot right now. The water in the river Sunday was roughly 69 degrees, so that's too warm ...
