Grunts and Seabass available

A window of very calm weather early Friday 2-8-19 prompted me to go check out Rotary Reef for Sheepshead. Was by myself with shrimp, no sheepshead there but released a nice 23 in black drum. Then went about 8 miles further south to some live bottom areas in 28-30 feet and found lots of grunts and se...

Re: St Marks 4/15 and 4/16

I was out there on the west flats south of Kitchen Cove and Little Pass from 1-4:30pm on Saturday 4-14....murky, less than 2 feet visibility, temp 73, not too rough since the wind let up from the morning 20+mph, but not much biting on my live shrimp either. Caught several shorts and a few sailcats. ...

Re: St Marks trout thrashing

I must say that I have enjoyed the response / dialog to my post. I did a little google search and may have answered my question about the survival of released fish. Properly handled, the estimated mortality is 10% average for speckled trout, probably even better in the winter. Interestingly, large h...

St Marks trout thrashing

Mine was one of 35 to 40 boats fishing within 1 mile of the St. Mark's and Wakulla River confluence today. Almost everybody was catching fish but almost all were small, less than 15 in. I personally boated 30 for the one keeper that I came across. My concern is that this is hard on the resource. I d...

Re: Apalachicola bay 10/12-14

Fished with a friend and his two boys Saturday am 9-12, tried the protected, leeward areas of the west flats from Shell Point. Very strong ENE wind, murky water with 12in visibility, temp 82 degrees. Caught a couple of small bonnethead sharks, ladyfish and a few short trout. Used live shrimp and DOA...

Re: Tides

I tried the GA coast a few years after moving to Atlanta from Louisiana. I too was taken aback by the huge tides, 8-9 feet on new and full moons. This creates muddy water for inshore fishing, so not always a good thing. However, some find it helpful for fishing redfish in the grass though. Most peop...

Where the fish Aren't

The weather was perfect Saturday, thought we'd try for some sheephead near offshore. Used live shrimp. Rotatary reef water was clear, could easily see the structure and bottom, but not much there, two small grunts. Same at Wakulla and St Marks reefs. Some small seabass at St Marks.

Re: Who's catching?

Four of us fishing last Saturday 8:30 am for 3 hours, falling tide; and then 2 hours, rising tide in the afternoon after 4pm....shrimp and nuclear chicken gulp were about equal catching, but less pin fish bother on the gulp. Water was murky, 79 degrees am , 81 degrees pm. Fishing was better in the m...

Well, as you know, everyday is different for fishing. Sometimes you just gotta go see for yourself. Good luck and let us know if they showed up.

St Marks Reefs 2-19 - 2-20

Tried several of the public reefs and a couple of my spots from Rotary to Wakulla on Friday afternoon and then east to Peters rock area and Dog Ballard Saturday. Hoping to target sheepshead, sea bass, or flounder near the bottom with shrimp and gulp. Not much happening out there. Water was decent, p...

Re: Fishing

I gave it a good try this weekend, Friday pm and Saturday at the St Marks public reefs in 20-25 ft....lots of bait fish, no cobia, a few Spanish and one shark. It was hot, slow, and hard to stay out there. Water temp is 90 degrees, even the mackerel seemed lethargic. Also tried the west flats on the...
