Re: 4/7 - Rotary Reef/Ochlockonee Shoal/Marker 24

It takes time to figure this stuff out so don't get discourage. My advise would be to start with the basics and then build on them. Learning how and where to catch bait is always at the top of the list. Second would be to understanding your bottom machine. Youtube is a great resorce for this. You wa...

Re: Yamaha F25

I have a Yamaha 25hp 2 stroke on a 15' G3. Besides replacing a water pump their has been zero issues with it. I've also owned a 2 stroke merc. Personal I prefer the merc if we are talking about tiller models. The reason being you can shift from F-N-R but just twisting the handle. If you are using a ...

Re: Ochlockonee Bay, Alligator Point, and Bald Point 2018 Fi

I caught a few while living in OR. but am pretty sure those where a different type. They're like giant catfish. We would use stinky dead herring stuffed with salmon eggs on basically the same setup we use for grouper.

Re: Eye protection (shades)

I've owned 4 sets of Costa. 3 of the 4 had metal frames and each one had the same issue. The lenses would fall out of them. Each time I would send them back they would say it was my fault. The first one they wanted to charge me $75 and the other two the cost was $140. Forget them. once this last pai...

Great article on his life and contributions in Angler's Journal. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times--he was a special person.

Re: Slack Tide Fishing

You never know unless you go. That being said I do find it more difficult to find fish inshore when the tides are like this. Trout are mainly ambush feeders. Much more than reds are so they will be the hardest to find. Loud top water plugs seam to work the best as it tends to call them. My advise wo...

Re: St Marks trout thrashing

I did some research today on the mortality rate of trout that have been caught and released. The 10% number previously quoted sounds about right. The lowest number I found was 6% and the highest was 13%. At first that number sounded low to me but when you think about all the trout that are caught in...

reel upgrades

Over the last few years I have made some upgrades to a few of my reels. It all started with an old Calcutta 400 I had owned for around 15 years. It was a decent reel but just wasn’t as smooth as it used to be. I started out by replace the old drag with new carbon fiber ones. After that I found some ...

SM refuge closer?

To those who had planed on going to the refuge this weekend you might want to start thinking about option B. If this federal stop gap budget isn't passed today the place will be closed.
