Saturday 6/9

Went down to the coast late Friday with a buddy to clean up the house. Launched the boat and got run off the water by lightning so we went to Hamaknockers. Love those smoked wings. Checked my fishing log and made our game plan for the morning. Ran out about 7 am to pretty nice conditions but overcas...

Before the storm

Went down to the coast for the long weekend with low expectations given the weather forecast. Threw the castnet Friday afternoon and caught a bunch of finger mullet. Launched the kayak and went to hit a few oyster bars. Caught a couple of big sailcats, a few ladies and a nice Spanish that a shark gr...

Venice May 9-11, 2018

Just got back from our yearly family fishing trip to Venice, LA. Finally caught a break with our weather as it was as flat as I have ever seen it. We fished 2 boats with Captain Patrick Dickinson (Dixie Riverside Charters) and Captain Jacques Blaize (Blaize Charters) and the fishing was absolutely o...

Re: St. Marks report

Last week was spring break so I fished pretty hard Wednesday through Friday. Very tough and did not find a consistent bite. 44 degrees Wednesday morning and 20 mph wind did not help. Got frustrated so trailered over to Econfina. Water clarity much better, but still windy and tough fishing ( 1 trout ...

Well done. I fished that day and managed one legal trout, 2 shorts, 2 white trout, and a bunch of sailcats and a Spaniard.

Re: Slim pick'ns

Fished Wednesday since it was Spring Break. First cast was a 19" fat trout at 7:30 am. Cleaned her at 7 pm. Lots of practice casting in high winds in between. Very tough.

Re: Prepping for a weekend trip

If you find bait, you will find the fish. Watch your water temperature. warmer was better for me last weekend. Fish were over transition points in 3-6 feet of water. Start off fishing slow.

Shell Point 3/24

Forecast was for winds at 15-20 mph so I was not going to down to the coast, but I woke up at daylight and could not go back to sleep. I checked the weather and it was pretty calm so I packed a sandwich and headed down. When I got to the bay, it was glass calm (like I have to throw a topwater calm),...

Well done. I managed one puffer and a short trout fishing the afternoon. Water temp was down 6 degrees from last Saturday.

Re: Saturday 3/3

The boat was on the trailer not in the water. It was obvious that it was pointless to try and launch in my neighborhood. Nice ramp at Shell Point. I bet it is a circus during scallop season.

Saturday 3/3

Drove down Saturday morning with a buddy to fish the rising tide. Got to the house about 11 am and was shocked at how low the water was. Could not get out of our canal so we had to trailer the boat to Shell Point and use the new ramp. Ran out to try and catch some trout, but found no takers. Fished ...

Re: Turkey Camo

Not a fan of the blinds unless hunting with a young hunter. Brush yourself in with a few pieces of shrubbery just to break up your outline. Get a chair (NWTF makes a great one) which will help you sit still longer.

I wear a leafy bug suit and use a thermacell. Cover your face and hands and like the others have said be still.
