Reminder about Australian Gold Sunscreen vs Flies

Post by fishforfun »

I think it was a couple years ago someone on this forum pointed me to this for the seasonal biting flies out right now. I was under attack Friday and remembered I had some Australian Gold on board. It really works, stopped 95% of the landings on my legs that were driving me crazy. I got mine on Amazon.

I will check out Australian Gold.

The only two things I have found that work for both the biting black flies and yellow flies are Sunsect and Permetherin. I don't put sunsect above my eyes because it is very hard to get out and burns like crazy if you get it inside your eyes.

Permetherin is a bit different. You spray it on a set of clothes and let it dry. Then it lasts for a long time even if you wash the clothes. You can find it at Kevin's in Tallahassee. I am not sure about the long term effects of using it, but it works on everything. Ticks, chiggers, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Australian Gold.

Will have to stock up. Hard to focus on the task at hand when your rubbing one leg to another trying to keep from getting bit.

Thanks for the re-fresh on the tip.

Do you recall which product? Is it the insect repellant or is there one that is sunscreen and also repels insects?
Thanks

It works!

They will fly all around you, but they tend not to land anywhere you've got it applied.

You will look like a tourist, but you won't be sunburnt or itching.

Anyone know what happened to sunsect, or if it is still sold anywhere?

The last I heard about Sunsect was they were unable to financially recover from mismanagement. Their website is down and about a year ago my email enquiry went unanswered.
It was a great product and I wish it were still available.

Wow. I wasn't aware that Sunsect was out of business. I guess I have been surviving off the product I had stashed in my various boat compartments for a long time.

I will have to keep an eye out for some. Hopefully they will come back or somebody else will invest in the business. It was a good product and way more effective than most.
